I have been looking at my history in playing tours
I consistantly get to the point where 90% of the field are out, but ALWAYS go out soon after, I DO NOT play with a make the bubble mentality. I play to win.
most often I make it to the point in the money where im making 4x my buy in.
never seem to make it really pay off tho. I keep notes for every tour and all my cash game sessions.
from my notes I took these examples
in the last week:
Buy in 11.00
field size 1200+
Finish 99th

out hand AA<KK
buy in 3.30
field size 5200+
finish 104th
out hand AK<K4

buy in 2.20
field size 6000+
finish 100
out hand AKs<AKd

buy in 5.50
field size 360
finish 15th
out hand AA<52

Now, I know Im not posting hand histories here, but I notice a pattern here in regard to the depth of the tours where I seem to go out. I generally play tight, untill I have a reputation established, then i open up the game when position and table behavior allow it

All of the above hands were Pre Flop all in hands as by this pont in the tours blinds and Antes were very high, and i was looking to stack up for a run at the final table.

wondering if perhaps Im playing too tight AND too hard late?
mebbe I should be limping or 2-2.5xing pre? and looking to play them off their hands post flop?

I am looking at the hand converter At this moment, as i have never used one once i learn how to use it i will begin posting in the hand alalysis section for MTTs

any and all input, welcome AND appreciated.

It's commendable that you're consistent about being ITM + ROI = 4x buy in...esp in the fields you're playing in. It appears that your goal at this point is to have a win (or @ least a final table)? Perhaps consider playing in a multi-table SNG...I find them to be like mini-MTTs (& play them that way); I enjoy the 90 & 180 peep SNGs, specifically KOs.

Also, just a suggestion, it's indicated that you have a 'play to win' mentality but it just hasn't gotten you there quite yet? This is the approach I use, it may not work for everyone but I like to benchmark my progress & it works well for me...
  • Make it to 1st break
  • Make it to 2nd break
  • Make it to ITM
  • Make it to final 3 tables
  • Make it to final 2 tables
  • Make it to Final Table
  • Make it to Final 3
  • Take it down
The primary reason that I use this approach is it helps with my decision making...what do I want to accomplish @ this point in the SNG or MTT (ie: do I really want to call a 4xBB raise oop with 3.3 & maybe hit a set (~13% of the time) against a solid player or am I on track for the Final Table?). Note: I'm also taking into consideration stack sizes, blinds & antes, the other players' tendencies, etc...

It's good that you'll be posting HHs in the HA section for feedback, you'll receive a lot of good input there. GL.

Seems like you're playing consistent poker man!
But if you only wish to get to the final table I think that, seeing your awful bad beats, you should only avoid the all-ins pre-flop...try to see your hand situation on the flop and play or fold from there to make it to a better position I guess...Stick to raises only and don't all-in unless you have the nuts post-flop.

this seems to happen to me too every time, 1000 players sharp, 1$ buy in, i make it all the way to the final 15, i am 9th in place, chip leader bets every single hand, i get delt AK, he raises preflop, i reraise, he goes all in and i call, he shows K9 i show AK and i lose, i got like 6$ profit for 6 hours of play.

yeah now i remember why i play cash tables.
