While the ultimate goal in MTT's is winning it all, I like to make goals along the way, or small victories if you will. Over this weekend I played in about 5 or 6 of the ACR's 10$ on demand freerolls, making the final table twice, once with an 8th place finish, and the other a 6th. I was wondering if anyone has any tips to staying consistent. I'm either out early or make a deep run. I've noticed that I am starting to make more deep runs than not here lately. Could those few times being an early out just be inevitable as to how frequent I play? Or is there tips anyone has that seems to get them deep more often than not?

I usually just try to make it to the next break. And at least try not to fall too far behind the average stack size but if I'm way ahead, then I like to try to maintain my ranking until I have a chance to take down a big pot.

But I am better at STTs than I am at MTTs so don't take my word for it

Those are some really hard freerolls to play. And I'm sure you have to stay focused at all times to get ITM . But you are doing like I do by setting some goals, and they should be goals you can reach. If you set them to far out there, you probably will get disappointed if you can't reach them and that's not going to help your confidence at all and that is something we all have to have to believe in ourselves. What I call my goals is rules I set. For one, if I play cash games, and if I lose my buy in I do not play any more that day on the same site.but if I'm winning I like to set a time limit on how long I'm going to play and I stick to that, but later on I may come back and play some more For another, when I play MTTs my rule is to buy in and rebuy from the start, and If I make it to the first break, I add on no matter how many chips I have. But if I don't make the break, I just quit and go onto something else. Anyway this is a fact, from one day to the next it never is the same at the poker tables, and you may run good for a few days, and then you may have bad days when nothing goes right no matter how you play. I guess what I'm saying, is that those bad days will come and they may last awhile. When they do, the best thing to do is put very little money out there until it changes. I've been there and that's just what I done and believe me it will save your BR so you can fight another day. I'm sorry this is so long/

Playing tight early is important in mtts. There are so many chancers out there who like to build up a chip lead early and take a lot of risks. I sometimes prefer not to play for the opening 20 -30 mins until some of these loose players are eliminated. Also you are playing for very little in some of the hands as the blinds are so low. I'd rather just wait a whole then enter the tournament. I seem to have more success playing this way than I do when I enter from the beginning.
