Merry Christmas All

Was just wondering if there were any guidlines to Rebuys ie how many should you be prepared to take, when to do it etc.

From tournament play I have seen people rebuy, time and time again normally donking all thier chips on an all in. This (as I understand it) is to accumulate a lot of chips early on but Ive never really seen this done successfully.

I normally do a rebuy initially when Im just below starting chip as this is a almost double up so I see it at advantageous (sp?). Otherwise I will only rebuy when I bust out to a bad beat or if the table is particularly loose (so I suppose I'll get a lot of "It depends" replies :D)

Add on is a must (these normally happen after the first break) as the extra boost in chips gives you that little edge.

Generally I make sure my Bank Roll allows for 3 to 5 rebuys without me having to drop stakes if I loose it all.

Commenys anyone?

If your probarly rolled id suggest a rebuy right at the start so u start witha double stack and ofcourse u should allways addon, you should also be willing to double rebuy atleast 1-2 other wise u might just aswell play a freezout imo.
Main think is that u realize that when your playing for example a 3$ rebuy is that u shouldnt treat it like a 3$ tourney but like a 12$ tourney, know how often your willing to rebuy before hand.

As for the people that go crazy during the rebuy period and maybe rebuy 20times there are 2 advantages to that strategy.
1. You have a chance to build a monster stack.
2. Even if u do fail to build a huge stack there is still going to be a huge amount of chips in play at the table after the rebuy period(sucks if u get moved tables though) ends.
Asuming u believe u have a skill edge there is alot of chips to be won.

One thing I would add. I don't think you should ever rebuy if the rebuy gives you less than 20x big blind. In this case you would be better off using your money to join another tourney where you would be at even par with the rest of the field.

I play quite a lot of re-buys, and I belive in taking that extra buy-in to start with, and then play tight agressive. Then take the add-on, as you get more chips for the same amount.
Problem is that my strategy will almost always make me short stacked to such an extent that I dont always know what to do with a big stack.
One important thing to keep in mind when you play re-buys is proper money management.
A 1$ re-buy might end up costing you 10$, so if you only have 20$ to start with you should not play in it.

Once or twice

I only rebuy once or twice and definately do the addon. Of course I won't play any rebuy less than 1.00.

You should have a lot more than that. Your BR should be able to cover 4xbuyin x 40.

I don't advocate planning on making more than 2 re-buys and one add-on. If you expect to make more, adjust the above BRM guideline.

Rebuy as early as possible and more if there is no upper limt on your chip stack . You can the consider the add-on. Look at the chip stacks around you and decide.

I think you need to be going in with a plan and a set amount of money you want to commit to the tourney.

I personally prefer to play with one buyin and an addon and build my stack by picking off the all-in monkeys. This is purely so I can have a shot at a massive prize pool for minimum investment. Whatever your plan is, I can only advise you to stay disciplined to reduce your losses on 'one of those days'.

I don't agree with rebuying after a bad beat, regardless of the circumstances. You will not be in the right frame of mind to play the right poker and go deep in the tourney.

I do at most 3 rebuys and a double add-on. when I play in tournaments until $3.00, but I prefer to play in freezeout, for all play equal and with the same dedication!

I don't pretend to be an expert, I really don't play a lot of rebuys but when I ask on the rail to the people at the final table a general consensus is to not rebuy at all, and just play tight early and open up when the blinds go up and there are no more rebuys.

I like doing a double rebuy when I first get out, but that is just about the only situation where I rebuy. I do not know what it is with me, but I would just rather play in a different tournament than rebuy. I just get a bad feeling about rebuying in the same tournament, but I will a lot of times double rebuy if it is cheap to do so.

This is a question I often ponder myself. Obviously, the ideal situation would be to NEVER have to rebuy...but you must consider the advantage that a simple rebuy offers. A rebuy at the beginning of the tournament allows you a 2:1 chip advantage immediately, which can be huge in attempting to push other players around. At the same time, pushing other players around isn't that big of a deal because, well, they'll be willing to just rebuy. Regardless, the point of going all in again and again is to accumulate the most chips possible, so if you have the bankroll to spare, go for it. That's why I often refuse to enter rebuy tourneys unless I can spare four or five times the buy-in AT LEAST. That's one immediately rebuy, and one-two double rebuys (no point in single rebuying trust me). As confusing as the rebuy process is, the simple fact is that most people who enter rebuys are prepared to rebuy many times to build up their stacks, so unless you are willing to match them you should not enter (unless you are fine with losing a buyin to 83os and quitting).
