Hi Guys.

I would be interested to have your comments on rebuys tournys.

Due to the `second chance` nature of rebuy tournys, do you guys think its a good idea to play them?

My thoughts are that people will take more chances and therefore if you have good cards you will pile up the chips early on. (or go bust to a fish or possibly a lucky f**** I suppose)

What are the general thoughts?

I`m talking about buyins of between $10 - $50 - this may have a bearing on it.

Also, any rebuy strategy would be appreciated.

Cheers guys :icon_thum

personally, i do not like them, although the last live rebuy tourney i played in i finished 6th without a single rebuy OR add-on, whereas, everyone else at the tourney rebought at least once (and everyone at the final table surely did, since we were talking about it)

i used to hate rebuys because of how crazy they were pre-rebuy break
But now my view on them is this: basically they are freezouts, but with the added feature of being able to rebuy before the first break.
People will pay you off 90% of the time pre-break because they play like maniacs. The prize pool gets much larger, and basically it's easier to make big money in these tourneys.

What generally happens is, the gamblers build huge stacks by the rebuy break, and if you're a smart tight-aggressive player, you should have a decent stack by the break aswell.
This is good for me, because usually by the time the break comes along, i've set a supertight image, and can now steal the 100$ BBs pretty easily.
On top of that, the big stacks provide an easy double-up because most of them are donkeys or gamblers.
Another thing is that the prize pools can be much larger in rebuys. I recently played a titan 6K, but there were so many people making so many rebuys and addons that the pool reached over 8000$ :)
another thing to consider: when you look at a rebuy's buy-in, consider that you'll most likely pay 2-4 times that in rebuys and addons, so a $5 rebuy is really like a $20 tournament.

chuck, you NAILED IT.

super loose preflop = you get paid off
take a bad beat? rebuy
prize pool gets huge

just play ur game in the rebuy hour... maybe take a few gambles you might not otherwise. I remember in 1 rebuy, there was literally 6 ppl all-in ahead of me, so I called with A4 of spades. Missed the flush but I'd take that bet everytime in the rebuy hour. I mean 6-1 on a suited ace that if u dont hit u can just rebuy for what u started with? every time. Oh yeah, be careful not to donk off all ur chips in the rebuy hour gambooling if u do happen to get a big stack. I'd say if u get 15k+, sit out until the break unless u get AA or KK.

i generally dont like to play rebuys because they are like playing $1 freezouts. its pure gambling until the break. however if you survive to the break theres a very good chance as long as you have an average stack that you will do well. alot of gamblers make it to the break and therefore - usually its a worse calibre of player your up against.

my strategy is. play premium hands aggressively and look to build a monster stack for the break. this means being prepared to go all in with AK AQ AJ and medium pocket pairs and high type hands to look for a build up in chipstack.
