What's everyone's opinions on rebuying straight away to gain an advantage? Is it a worthwhile investment into the tournament or would you go without and only use if going bust? Also thoughts on add ons ?

Often I'll see how many players do, and if those that do take it are using their larger stacks aggressively and calculatedly. If they seem very loose, maybe I can double up for free from inducing a shove when I have good hand ;-) Often, other players attempt to do this, only to play too loosely, so be sure to choose your spot and hand. Of course if nothing comes up and average stack size growth/blinds increase is outpacing me then I could just bite the bullet and take the rebuy.
If the large majority (just about everyone) at the table insta-rebuy then I almost certainly will as well just to level the field, as I could get pushed around a bit too often being only half everyone else's stacks, meaning my rebuy after going bust will be a double anyway -therefore I've sunk my original buy in for nothing without ever having adequate stack strength in the first place.
I certainly will if the blinds progress very quickly as I will need to capitalise maximally at every single opportunity and those extra chips may well be the difference between blinding out and getting paid.
Add ons maybe depending on the size of it relative to stacks, remaining # of players but can't think of any particular occasion I haven't taken it. Maybe a few times when I was very large vs average stacks in a satellite and I was already comfortably placed vs # of seats for the taking.
Guess it all really depends on how much you value what's at stake and how rebuy/add on is gonna affect your roll.
Spoken by a true cheapskate :-D

Altough I rarely play MTTs, I would definitly use an option to get a double stack right away - especially if you think you have a skill edge over your opponents on the table.

much depends on the tournament to rebuy, the awards varies greatly also to your bankroll.

fair to other players - you are joking

anyway I have learnt that to rebuy at the start is the only option - you can play sensibly against the single entry players trying to double up with ..................

Just treat it as a total entry cost and live with it.

The addons are only worthwhile if you are close to or in a reasonable place to get some back otherwise it will be all in time shortly.

I do not use the multiple buyin possibilities, but I can imagine in rare cases could be a good decision. Depends on ther prize and buyin relationship. In case if the prize is good enough and the buyin is low enough yes, is worth it.

In my opinion is the quickest way to go bankrupt , you can get carried away and lose all your money without realizing it.

If you go in knowing you are playing more aggressive because you have a plan to rebuy then you have to switch thinking to be more patient after the rebuy, sometimes I think it is better just to play smart have patience all the way though to get your head in the right gear from the start.

Rebuy tournaments have too much variance for those willing to rebuy apart from the entry prize. Which is why I don't like participating in them, since u can end up rebuying many times and still lose.

I don't play a lot of re-buy MTTs, but it usually depends on if most of the players have re-bought early on.

For me, it's being able to get max value for my big hands having similar stacks as everyone at the table, especially since I know the early re-buy stages of these MTTs are very loose.

So, for example, I'd hate to see my AA > KK when I have a 1.5K stack and my opponent has a 3K stack. By not re-buying early, even though I won the hand, I still lost out on that extra 1.5K.

There is this thing that most good players follow called BRM. It helps with not going broke.

Also, if your problem is re-buying multiple times, not following BRM, and allowing yourself to go broke on a single game, then it's you as a player that needs work.

In an MTT rebuy/add-on situation, always get as many chips that you can buy on the table as soon as you can.

I usually just do a rebuy. The higher the stack the more advantage. If the big blind does not make rebuys

Some sites I play on allow rebuys in their freerolls. I find it amusing that someone would rebuy in a freeroll! I play the freerolls to build my bankroll not spend it in a game where people play like untrained monkeys. I feel rebuys should be limited to 1 per tourney, they usually are in live poker. I realize the online poker sites allow unlimited rebuys to make their money but I think it makes those tourneys suck til rebuys end.:D

only for micro stakes

I only rebuy when the stakes are very low for it is an easy way to loose your bankroll getting into a sinkhole in the wrong tournements - only rebuy 2 times max - chalk it up as a loss anymore than that.

I usually buy in at the end of the buy-in period.
Cause the add-on is so big, the first hour of the tournament isn't worth it.

I do not recommend In big tournaments rebuy, especially if it is a regular freeroll

I wouldn't do it and honestly I don't see it to be that advantageous until farther into the tournament, if at all.

I agree, not only for the add-on, but because a lot of players will donk off chips at the end of the buyin period in hopes of making a quick double up. And this is also the reason I don't like playing from early on, as they just keep rebuying to where the tourney sometimes becomes a shovefest every hand.
