Is it better to buy-in early and build, while possibly having to rebuy a few times.

Or is better to double buy and add-on at the end of registration, while starting with about 30 bbs?

I may be looking at this the wrong way but I would say that
if you considered yourself to be an above average player why
not buy in at the beginning with greater chance of building a stack.
Possibly less variance buying in later, but also no possibility
of > 30BB stack at that stage.

Good point. I am guilty tho, just bought in at the 55 min. Starting stack 9k at 75/150.

edit: much ado to a 5k add on

I think its a matter of taste, i prefer the version with the registration & rebuy + addon at the end of the rebuy stage and play it like a normal mtt...

Indeed its a matter of taste.
But if you want to max your EV and profits, its best to approach a rebuy+addon tourney as a 3x buy-in tourney.
1$ r+a tourney = at least 3$ BI, and even better if you do x5 the buy-in

at the low stakes it usually doesnt really affects much if you buy in late or early. I think at the 100$ + its importent to take the max advantege of the rebuys and addaons and try to build a good stack till the Add on.

In the dollar frenzy on merge It makes no sense to me how some/alot of people will just keep rebuying when a buy-in or rebuy gets you 3k and the 1 add-on at break gets you 30k. Ill late reg in this tournament becuase it make the most sense when u can late reg for $2 for 33k chips when avg. is about round 60k with over 50% of players already eliminated.

It depends.
If you're a good player (comfortable with deepstacks & postflop play) you're going to always want to reg. from the start & take advantage of a great oppurtunity to build a good stack (just like in any tournament). Deeper stacks favour the better players on the table. If you're one of them of course you'll want to be in there from the get go.

I always register at the start for re-buys - usually won't even play them if I am not registered within about 30 min of the start time.

With the one exception of the tournament buster mentions above - I always register for it within the last 2-3 min of the re-buy period then add-on for the 30k chips. All you need at that point is one double up to get you in the game.
