Somebody help me out here. I read article, after article about how you should resteal in the later stages of a MTT. Every time I have tried it, the original raiser either calls me or shoves all in.

What am I doing wrong ?

You really need to post a few HH's and give player stats to know for sure. But the general idea is to target players that will be opening too wide and calling too tight when you ship. Oh and you really should be shipping for this to work. A good stack size is 20-25bbs in a SNG and 25-30bb in a MTT. If your likely ahead of the openers range then shipping is fine. Be aware of where the open came from and how big there stack is, how likely are they to fold. Against an ep opener JJ+ AK would be the type of range to resteal with. 99+ AJs+ is a range vs a mp opener and 77+ ATs+ KQs from a lp opener. These are tight restealing ranges and you could add a few more hands if you think the villian is opening wider than they should. Also make sure there open doesn't commit them to the pot.

Always make note of anyone you see folding to a reraise. They are a candidate for a resteal. of course anyone limping and folding to raises are good ones to push around too.

If i'm in a mtt with 4 tables left i open/tile all four and start taking notes.

wow, talk about dedication. what stakes do you play?

as for the OP, cardplayer52 covered most of it.
i'd be aware of the size of the pot too, to see which spots and situations are most profitable to even attempt a resteal.

a concept that you must be understood when making resteal is fold equity:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fold_equity

which is the
likelihood that opponent will fold (calculated using what cardplayer52 mentioned) * amount of chips you will gain if opponents fold (amount in the pot)

i play low stakes. i don't play mtt very often and make it to the last 4 tables even less. not that hard to open a couple more tables up and observe them.
