I never noticed the option to re-buy or add ons in freerolls before I started playing again online recently.

I am curious if any of you have an opinion regarding whether it makes sense to spend any money while in a freeroll. My instinct says no but then I figure, why not.... if I can get to some real cash.

Would like to hear your opinions on this, thanks!

I see a lot of rebuys and add on action in the poker stars privledge freerolls and I can't see where it will be profitable in most cases.
There are some cases in this where the rebuy or addon will get you to a min cash which in some cases (9:00 est games) which is equal or higher than the 30 cent cost of the add on.

playing at FF in a freeroll, was mid staked, doing OK, but the 50cents I paid for the add on put me in the top 100. seemed like everyone was adding on so I was afraid my average stack would be overwhelmed by the other guys..
Faulty logic? It does kind of screw up the idea of a FREEroll. Still not sure how to think about it. A cheap stack or a stupid expense for a free game?
ARGH!

100K Priviledge Freeroll? Not worth. Chromestar+ gets tickets for free so if you fail your tourney at start you can just play the same tourney later that day.

Also rebuy for it is like 0.30 $, mincash 0.18 $. Also the add-on in that tourney is like 2k chips when average chip amount usually is over 30k.

I am not sure where I stand on this issue on the one hand my logic says no but that is too black and white. I guess it depends on many variables including cost of rebuy, potential profit, stack size in relation to the tourney, etc. I can see that in certain situations where it would make sense and in other where it would not be wise. I would say if you want to do it there is nothing wrong with it although it may not be profitable. Good Luck!

It also makes no sense to me. The whole point of playing in a freeroll is just that. Free to play and when money, if you get knocked out there's always another freeroll somewhere else.

Really pointless because of many reasons.

A) Way to many crazy players in free-rolls and the chance you'll recoup your funds is less than 40%.

B) As other's have stated It's free and thus really pointless to waste your funds on It. As you'll need alot of luck as It is too get deep enough to make some serious money In It.

C) If rebuys are your thing, I suggest playing in re-buys that is actually worth It (80K GTD on Stars) 1.10 re-buy+10k add on for 1 dollar or something like that.

I always laugh when someone rebuys at my table. Here's the thing.

Maybe you are on the early stages of the freeroll. For some reason (maybe a bad play, most often bad beat), you got kicked out. You can try for a rebuy, but is it really profitable here? I honestly can't say that it is. At this point you can't be sure at all of whether you'll finish in the money. The tourney just started, you're as better off as if you had just sit in. So, in this spot, it's just too big a risk.

If you are on the medium/final phase, it's even worse. I see people re-buying for the original 2000 chips when the BB is already at 400. They are forced to play a shove/fold strategy right from the get-go. Even if there is a little gap (say, BB is at 100), they are forced to play tight and enter fit-or-fold mode. And most likely, if they get lucky, they will reach the lowest prizes. They will have to survive for a little more to even recover what they spent, let alone profit.

From my point of view, it's a waste. You enter free of charge, if you get kicked out, then go. Freerolls are not that much about skill. They are about luck (early stages) and aggression (late stages, and even then luck plays a major role). You can't change any of these things by re-buying. I tend to do pretty well on freerolls when I start out playing tight and then get to 200-500BBs or more. I can confidently sit out, have dinner, go for a walk, come back, and still have at least 100BBs to play and push people around, after all the all-in freaks are gone. If you don't get to that spot on those early stages, then you're done for the tourney. That's the way freerolls go. Just go out and try another time.

Rebuys and addons in freerolls? I've done it, but only on 888 when we're a handful of players from cash. If the rebuy is equal to or less than min cash, and I know I have enough hands to fade the required players I do it. Only had it go wrong once in the dozen or so times I've done it.
I went from last minute rebuy and an addon to Final table a few times, first once. It seems like you either have to donk for 10 hands and luck out or be strategic and maybe rebuy in order to get there. I had seen most of those players earlier in the game and that's exactly what I saw them doing.
But maybe that's just my luck and what I've seen.

It depends on the setup but what I seen so far, its not worth it. The amount of rebuy/addon is higher than the mincash. The addon chip amount is less compared to the average stack. Lastly, its not guarantee you end up ITM even with excessive rebuys.

I won't rebuy in a freeroll, but if I'm near the money come add on time, I'll usually take it.

I play mainly on BetOnline these days and there are a lot of free roll tournaments. I've actually started to do fairly well in these tournaments, playing several each day. The add on is usually tiny: $.05 for the $10 & $25 free rolls, and I've paid as much as $.045 in the larger ones.

Although it's a free roll and rebuying or adding in seems counter-intuitive, the prize pool s still a prize pool. If an add on will help me to cash, I'm going to strongly consider it.

not usually worthwhile - add ons get to be played as previous comment - where you are near or in the money and you are happy with your play to date - sometimes you just feel that you will be better playing elsewhere.

some of them are more than worth it! (ask dealio... I think made a rebuy or at least an addon in the one he recently went deep on for $300+)
It's all relative. To just say "no it's not worth it" is like saying you should fold AK preflop because it's not a 'made hand'

You know, some freeroll rebuys DO NOT go towards the prize pool? That is even worse, but they will still do it....

Honestly, free or not, I have seen some folks rebuy so often they would have to come in 5th just to break even or see a small profit. Often they lose before money bubble after the rebuy period is over. Small buy-in rebuy Carbon games are crazy - I have made the money in many without ever re-buying or adding on. Seen many payout $5 for a chance at a $1.00 ticket - lmao.

Winning $20.00 is great, unless you spent $35 and 3 hours to get it.

buyin

I don't rebuy or do add-ons in a freerolls, to do so the freeroll ceases to be just that.

I just them for practice. So many optorunity to learn the game is to play freerolls. just my 2 cents

This seems to be somewhat of a newer trend. I don't rebuy into them myself, but I definitely see that some do...

Most players in a freeroll re-buy tourney will not re-buy and I also.
