we have all experienced rebuy tournaments, here is how i see things in such a tourney. in my opinion you should only rebuy, add-on only once. why? you will ask, because it' s clearly since you are lossing that you re not playing your best poker and should just end it there before you lose more money.
I do not have a statistic in this sense but i think in most cases the tournament winner didn't rebuyed or used an add-on.
I guess the question is: AM i paranoiac to think this way? is this a good judgment? Thank you.

Rebuys will test you and your bankroll.

Not paranoid, but perhaps overly cautious. If you are playing over your bankroll you shouldn't be playing rebuys.

There is a mindset that thinks you have to rebuy as often as necessary if you join these. Something like get as much insanity going on at your table, and as many chips in play at your table with the expectation that you will win them all back.

I have tried both ways and much prefer to hit big early and not have to rebuy. But I've reought 10 times and barely made my money back as well.

Several successfull players here approach rebuys (higher buy-in rebuys) like this;
Rebuy once immediately (before the first hand ideally), and add-on at the break. They generally won't re-buy willy nilly like the aforementioned insaniacs.

My strategy is to not rebuy and just add-on at the break if I'm still around.

I do not enjoy playing in any rebuy or add on tournaments. I've always felt that it gives an unfair advantage to people who want to keep on re-investing. We should all start on an equal plane and go from there.

I don't like rebuy tourneys. I think an add-on is OK. Players seem to play any 2 cards when they know ,if they lose, they don't "go home". I don't like being on the losing end of someone who goes all in with crap and I have a legitimate hand , only to get donked out. It makes me want to just not play anything, just wait til the rebuy period ends, add on, then play my game.

Rebuying can end up costing you way more then you want to spend. Its a bad idea if the cards are just not in your favor, even if u did win some cash you still might end up losing or not making any profit. The best thing would be to wait till the next tourney. :)

Adding on can be very helpful depending on where your chip stack is at, if someone has such a huge lead, then it may not pay.

hi

Rebuy and Add ons are very efficient :)

Id rather play rebuy than a freezout tournament

Once i rebuyed 4 times on bwin in a tournament and won it

If it would be a freezout i would never win it :D

Cheers

i never rebuy in tournaments because in tournaments i play in, the rebuy costs more than the entry to the tournament. Also, if id did rebuy, i would probably blow my money again, still being upset at how i lost my chips in the first place

Rebuys are great because it creats a deeper stacked tournament after the first break. I will always rebuy IMMEDIATELY and then try to build up a stack, I will take chances to double up and if I miss, I just double rebuy and try again.

P.S. You should always addon, no matter if you are the massive chip leader, ALWAYS ADDON!

I thought a good rule to follow in general when it came to rebuys was to limit it to the amount of the lowest payout?

QFT

-Rebuy @ very beginning

-1 Double-rebuy assuming the blind structure gives you enough blinds to still be a contender. (Don't rebuy for 3k if the blinds are 150/300 etc)

-And always add-on

This is usually how I approach rebuys and more often than not you don't even need the double-rebuy

Many people play a rebuy much more aggressiv...
So you should be able to rebuy once.
And take the add on if you ned it.
But you can´t say that you a playing bad. Maybe you got a few suck outs cause other peploe got very lucky....

I try to avoid these tourneys completely. You are right about the losing but they they suck you in and you think one one, one more, one more etc. Before you know it you have blown a big part of your bank roll for nothing.

I played in a rebuy tournament yesterday. Everytime I would get in the lead, there would be re-buys and I would have to fight my way back. If I am going to spend the money, I'd rather play in a higher money tournament.

I agree, why spend so much rebuying, when you can just play a higher tourney!

I played another rebuy tournament last night. It will be the last. To me they don't make any sense. People take chances, which they normally would not, knowing they can just rebuy. The rewards are not worth the investment.

You should always rebuy at the beginning BTW.

And just because you went deep on only one addon doesn't mean that it was the best strategy.

One thing many of the top players do in rebuy tournaments is to play crazy aggressive at the beginning and if they build up a huge stack, that's great. If they don't, they keep rebuying and rebuying. Why? Because it gets more chips on the table, and they know they can outplay the other players and take the chips from them after the rebuy period ends.

So don't be too quick to say you should only use one rebuy and one addon. If this is how you play rebuy tournaments, you're probably better off playing freezeouts TBH.

to re-buy hurts my pride. so do add-ons. it seems not fair. i'm not chippin out of my bankroll for a mulligan. if its a freeroll...why buy? use the skills you have over the idiots that re-buy over and over again. they're your bank of america of chips. of course you're gonna get donked out from time to time in any re-buy. i think the only time i've done a re-buy or an add-on was when playersonly gave me 20 gold chips they said expire in 5 days, so i used that as an excuse to donk-shove, re-buy, and add-on.

maybe its just me. i feel more accomplished if i'm ITM without an addon or re-buy. one way i try to think about it is...later on in a tourney, that rebuy or that add-on is only gonna be 1 blind, or half a blind at that. yeah when the blinds are 150-200 or whatever when the add-on period starts, it makes a difference but...if you really need it...maybe its not your night.

Rebuys are too much like freerolls. Too many people will play ATC in hopes of double or triple ups. I think its best if you play these to play tight, make your move with premium hands, or the nuts, or second nuts if you are getting involved in the hand. I prefer not to rebuy, but I will add on.

i never addon as the amount of chips u usually get in relation to stack sizes is too small. this is when i play rebuys at full tilt. Addon period is an hour into the tourney where the average stack is about 7500-8000 so adding on 1500 chips for me is not worth it.
