They suck you everytime. I find playing tight helps cause it seems using the reverse psychology to poker play works well.

When I play re-buys, I normally play very select hands but play them very hard. You will get alot of action normally. After the re-buy period ends, most people will tighten up. I usually try to earn myself some chips with soem aggressiveness during this short period also.

I also try to make note of anyone who didnt re-buy or add on. They will usually be looking to double up to the rest of the field and will be really aggressive.

I like re-buys. but you have to determine your limit before you start and stick with it. There are a lot of chips to be had during the re-buy period cause there are always people willing to push or call with anything.

Love rebuys, and I've been reading up all sorts of articles about them recently. All those pretty hands that you cant usually play, and have to throw away, they are all fair game in the first part of a rebuy.

Hey furlongs stay away from rebuys. They are bad news and designed by the poker sites to maximise their rake. Stick to freezeout games.

If you`ll pardon my saying so, that doesn`t make a lot of sense. Every poker site I know charges only one fee (on the initial buyin) for a rebuy tournament.

Therefore, sites make less from rebuys in proportion to the server time they require. Freezeouts finish more quickly.

I play big hands SUPER aggressive in rebuys, even to the point of open shoving AA, KK, QQ etc.

The correct method for rebuys is to be wild and rebuy often if the prize pool allows for it. The better you are the more chips you want at your table when the rebuy /add-on ends.

You can win nice money for minimum investment. I play very tight, do no rebuy at the get. You will usually get action with a hand. Its not worth playing too crazy and throwing too much into the pot since payout is top heavy, try to get past the rebuy perdiod for the minimum(no rebuys + addon) or up to 4 or 5 times the buy in max including the add on.

Playing Tight in rebuys is useful only after the first hour of play.

My strategies for First hour:
-play lots and lots of hands where you have any chance of flopping a made hand.
-suited (and even unsuited) connectors can pay off big in the first hour.
-Stick to the loose/passive play as well getting heavily involved ONLY with big hands.
-be prepared to ship any reasonable hand to gain chips if you are below avg., busting out isn't bad b/c you can always rebuy
- after you get a good portion ahead of the avg. you can settle into your normal game/after the first hour
-ALWAYS add on

Honesly though my vPip and PFR is usually around ~50/~33 ish for the first hour of the rebuys. After the first hour everything turns back into your normal tournament.

As an aside, if you are playing underrolled or are just generally tight in money on the account the rebuys are not the type of MTT to play

Rebuys ... freerolls on expensive steroids ...

Interesting comments - buy, rebuy and more rebuy... rebuy as often as you can for lots of chips. Doh .. listen to what you're saying. If you are rebuying over and over, you HAVE NOT accumulated a huge stack. Your stacks keep disappearing and you keep rebuying more. Buying more chips over and over and over doesn't make you a bigger stack, but it sure improves your opponents.

By the time you rebuy numerous times and pay for an add-on, you have probably put yourself in a position that you not only need to make it ITM, you MUST go deep to break even.

I won't play them very often, and when I do it is for the original buy-in ('maybe' one rebuy) and the add-on. Best MTT value around. Payout percent table stays the same, and you re-buyers just keep bumping up the pool and what I win by playing a good game.

This is one of the best posts I've read. If you have to keep rebuying you are starting at the bottom while others are already making big stacks (from people like you). Good one Nick.

I mean obviously there gets to a point where you need to ask yourself if you can at least make the money back if you make the money. I don't usually need more than 1 rebuy, but will stick around for 3 sometimes if i feel like the play is really easy, etc

There isn't one correct method to play re-buys. If you try reading up about it - start with the CC rebuy sections in the strategy articles tab up near the top right corner of this page - you will find that different strategies work better depending on whether (for example) it is a freeroll with rebuys, a buy-in with unlimited rebuys or a buy-in where only one rebuy and one add-on is allowed. The CC strategy articles also give various strategies you can use, depending on how comfortable you are with loose play. Your "correct method" sounds fairly disastrous to me, as long as you are happy with it that's fine, but I don't think I'll be adopting your strategy any time soon. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. :)

Never have seen one of these. OMG. What site has a freeroll with rebuys? What do you 'rebuy' with? What's the payout?

I never rebuy in tourments cuase if i loose ina tourment that quick i shouldnt rebuy

Everyone has to play their own strategy, of course. But I don't see anything wrong though with one rebuy and the add-on (if you need it). The prize pool payouts usually justify at least one re-buy. Play is looser, so there is always the chance that your early premium hand gets busted or takes a bad beat. If you 'never' rebuy. than it may be wise to stick with non-rebuy MTT's.

I have seen those, Nick. Entry is free, but you rebuy with cash. It basically means that the players with money in their accounts have an edge over the bums.

The most famous one is probably the bodog $500 freeroll, but there are some other ones on some of the smaller networks, too.

Winks...you really have to put a limit on the rebuys. It makes no sense to constantly rebuy in the first hour. You'll end up spending so much using strategy like that the only way to break even will be a win, and I don't think you'll get that after making the other players stacked.

Wow - strange. I can't imagine paying cash to stay in a FREEroll after losing a stack - lol ...

I don't frequent those, so I guess I'd never see 'em. What do they do? Add the re-buys to the prize pool? Or do they just structure out the $500 and you get to give the site cash in order for a freeroll donk to make it ITM and the site keeps the cash, while lowering their cost in the pool? Neither one makes any sense to me ...

rebuys are difficult. Personally, I think you should never rebuy more than twice. I usually enjoy playing in them b/c you just watch the prize money increase.

I play in rebuys a lot and stick to the motto that I should never rebuy. It's actually pretty easy. You simply go into the tourney with the feeling that these are your only chips, and you're playing much tighter than the "play and two cards and possibly double up right now" player.

Setting limits is the key to rebuy tourneys, but I personally can't stand playing in them as in the early going the play can get pretty ridiculous, if you get AA in the first half hour, you can almost bank on five callers no matter what you bet and no hand has great odds against 4 or 5 other players...For that period they are just a step above freerolls, especially the cheaper($1-$3) dollar ones.

I hate rebuy tournaments.
It's like buyin a stack for the 2nd our.
Just take a very large BRM for rebuy.
(400-500 buyins)
Play your premiums if you don't want to rebuy every time or play very aggressive if you want to ''buy'' a stack.

wow something i know a little bit about.
if the table is tight play looser then usual, the same goes for if it's loose play a little tighter, it seems to work for me.

set a limit before you register to avoid over buying; 2-3 rebuys and 1 addon for instance. other wise you'll spend too much and unless you finish on the top it won't be worth it.

if it's a satellite and 1st - 9th have same payout you only have to protect your chips and gain slower lead to remain within the top 9. when you get up there in other words don't jeapordize your chips, 9th is as good as 1st.

the rebuy period can be a little crazy with reraises and allins. i usually don't raise unless i'm prepared to call a substancial reraise or reraise myself. people are willing to call and bet anything and it does slow down a bit after addon, except for the shorstackers are looking to gain a lead.

the thing about calling allins which is a natural thing in these is make sure you have a good hand and willing to accept the consequences if you don't get the hand. it's a coin toss.

i've played these with the 1 buyin and 1 addon and got the same results. and i've found when you continually rebuy it doesn't put you any further, just keeps you in the tourny.

well good luck - i've enjoyed playing them since i stay within my limits, sometimes you win and sometimes you lose. peace ;)
