Hi All,

Playing in a re-buy tonight, NLHE, $50 buy-in, only 2 re-buys and an add on allowed. Any re-buys not used before the break can be used as add-ons.

Starting stack $2,000. Can re-buy as soon as you sit down, question is, should I? I have been thinking its not worth doing unless someone else at the table does it, in which case I should (double up through him and Im 4 x average stack).

Thoughts please?

I would do it instantly, take a 3x stack to begin with then add on,
dont see an argument for doing it any other way

Do it instantly and re-buy every opportunity that you can. If you don't you are likely to be way outchipped.

Be prepared to invest $200 in this tournament.

re-buys are $25 so max is $50 + 3 x $25. Am prepared for the full amount. Can only re-buy once you hit your starting stack of $2000 which is why they allow the instant re-buy.

From what you've both said though, re-buy instantly is the best way to go.

Thank you.

some people will incorrectly choose not to and will play looser looking to play speculative hands passively and gamble as 'they can still rebuy' or 'can build a stack without costing as much'. exploit them

So stick to Plan A, right cards in right position, don't loosen up just because re-buys are an option, take advantage of loose play and build early right?

This makes sense to me more because the re-buys are limited. Some people play this like there are no limits on number of re-buys and these are the ones you can stack up from early.

yup also be aware of the effective stacks once the blinds go up or one of the non rebuyers has been crippled

Most likely you will find in the 2 buy in max players are not going to do a double rebuy right up front. They are going to buy in for $50 and hopefully not have to rebuy again but in the 2 max rebuys most players save that second rebuy in case they take a bad beat. What site is it on?

remember implied odds etc are way worse against shorter stacks

So far from what I've seen 1 in 9 will do the instant re-buy. Tonight I will be one of those.

Live game at burswood casino, Perth.

How long is the rebuy period last? On average only 1 player out of each table is doing the instant double? They are going to be playing tight. The doublers have more chasing chips.
Good Luck

I disagree, they will play loose passive/get in it bad then rebuy

since your playing live keep an eye out for what people do with different stack sizes, easiest way to tell someone is bad is when they setmine without proper implied odds or flat raises only to check/fold flops when they are too short. Also i highly doubt anyone will be 3betting light so if someone is stealing a bit you can 3bet him and expect far more respect than you get online or in cash games.

That would be 8 out of 9 players lol

I have a green label for fish on pokerstars and I routinely end up sat on a table with everyone having a green label. I don't see why live would be different. If they don't re-buy they must have very little understanding of poker so are a fish.

If this was unlimited rebuys that would be the case. In a 2 rebuy max players tend to play it like a freezeout. That is why you see only 1 out 9 doing the instant. They are saving their rebuy for when they lose a flip.

No they arent, they dont play it like a freeze out, they play it badly by being loose/passive and trying to hit a flop/not being able to fold cause their 'tournament life' isnt at risk.

One more question, against the loose play then, given the right cards in the right position, am I looking to isolate more or less than normal?

isolate, but try not too bloat the pot too much as someone behind you might flat putting you in a shitty spot, poker is dynamic so against people who call too much you want to open wider for value, cbet wider for value, cbet air and give up if you get too much action, 3bet with a wider range as they are more passivey and will let you know what their range is as 4bets are always the nuts, and calls are often reluctant/flop dependant.

The further from optimal hands ranges they are, the further you can adjust to exploit them
