Hey Guys,
when I started playing online poker nearly everybody just limps into the flop and just risk about max. 10% of their stacks. I have done it too.

But when I watched the first time an live tournament nearly everybody raises to like 3 to 5 big blinds in the preflop already and there are generally like 2, max 3 players in the flop. All of of them risking each hand about 20% to 40% of theirs stack, so if they lose it's pretty bad for them.

So why is it such a huge difference? Is it because I just played low stackes with like under 2$?

Thx for your help :)

to my opinion it is because of the cards pepole muslty will raise 3 to 5 BB if they have good cards to build a pot incase they will hit something, so pros in live events abuse this consepts to build a pot or to bluff there opponnents depens on the position.

A lot of limpers are bad players... You will get a few players that will limp with AA hoping for another player to raise into the pot... When all the fishes calls the limp then that person with AA has too many players seeing a cheap flop. A hand like 53s could then hit a straight or a flush and crack those aces!! It happened to me when I was on the BB and got to check my baby flush/straight. The guy UTG limps with his AAs and I got to crack them.

Always raise if you are first into the pot, you want to look strong not weak. I would raise 3x no matter what hand you hold... Your opponents will not know what you are holding if you keep your raises the same size. If you are the 4th player to act and there is only limper then raise 3x + 1bb = 4x... 5x if 2 limpers... 6x if 3 limper and so on, and so on...

Thanks! I'll try it.
And when you said it it's obvious: The more players are into the port the higher the chance that somebody has a higher hand than you.

If you raise in pre flop if tells the other players you got a better than average hand, if you got something good don't limp in

Hm, and if you are in a good position and everyone limps and you have a medicore hand, isn't it good to limp too to see the flop cheaply and hit a monster sometimes?
Then you are the player you want to get out of the pot in preflop, so is it good to use this against the limpers?

If you are playing small stakes for $2, they would raise and go allin with any garbage hand.

If you're limping in with 10% of your stack, something is definitely wrong.

For the most part, limping is bad. Unless you're trying to trap a very aggressive table. Even then, raising would have more overall value. So, you should be folding most hands, raising more, and limping in the least. Basically if its a hand you want to limp in with, but wouldn't raise with, just fold it. The exception being small pairs and suited connectors in late position. Since you can get paid if you hit a set or straight. In early-mid, I fold these since three they don't play well OOP and you're in a bad spot if there is a raise behind you.

So, try to minimize your limping, especially when it's costing you 10% of your stack, and find hands you can enter with a raise or 3bet. You thin out the field (it's easier to win pots against fewer players than a whole table) and you get value on your big hands when they hold up. Also, since you're playing select, strong hands your stack shouldn't be dwindling too much too quickly.

I guess it depends on the table. If there are four players in, one will surely call. Just make sure your hands is better than his/hers. I noticed online, people will even call your all in with 5,8 off suit or other mediocre hands. They want to double up as fast as possible.

I think it's because playing online poker there are more novice players more ,

players who usually play live poker are very experienced players who know that if you 're going into a hand most of the time you do raise

I think it's good to raise before the flop so isolate some hands who want to see the flop cheaply , making aggressive raises before the flop when you have a good hand and then you can try to C-bet

I think a raise is better than limp !!! raise , primarily protects us from a large range of hands the opponent and we will be better placed to play our hand. in General, the raise itself is a good move . limp - game to the weaker players!
