About two months ago I started a Bovada account with about 25.00. I was down to about 5 then cashed a few and got back up to around 20. Then back down again. The other night I finished 3rd out 581 and cashed around 115.00. Is this good? I am proud of myself for the tourney but do the better players cash more and win more?

Also, this board is excellent and has taught me a lot. Thanks.

cashing 15% of the time in MTTs is good.
cashing 30% of the time in single table tourneys is good.

I'm glad you have a bigger bankroll now, since the smallest tourneys on Bovada are about $1.10 you really don't want to have a bankroll of less than $100 and don't move up in stakes now that you've won.

keep playing $1 MTTs and maximum of $3.30 single tables.

Thank you missjacki. I read the article about Chris Ferguson building up a bankroll from nothing and along with your advice I am working on it.

Keep in mind that when Ferguson did his BR challenges, he didn't have to concern himself with running into levels where he might be outclassed or even just average. He was always among the best players at every level. This meant he didn't need as many buyins to move up. Because of his skill advantage he needed fewer buyins to offset the risk of going broke than a less skilled player would have.

thats a very good money you won, however keep in mind that tournaments involves lot of luck in order to reach the very good prices. so with these cash you should try to play with a bankroll management. your best choice are mostly 1.10 dollard tournaments, stt or nl 2 or 5 until you have at least 200$.

yeah, I think so. Maybe even a little lower because live tourneys tend to pay a little smaller % of the field....although it really depends on the casino/house rules. some pay 9% some pay 10% some pay 15% rounded down to full tables...

for reference my in the money % is 47.2% for single table and 20.3% for MTT and I only play tournaments and I have been studying and playing for quite a while. I have a coach and study group and homework assignments...so I take it pretty seriously and I'm pretty proud of my progress. For years I was happy to have a 15% cash rate in MTT.
