Hi folks, I have been trying to get better in tournaments and I am nearing the top 10% in 80% of tournaments I play. But somehow I am making only about five percent of the final tables, and that too despite almost always entering the money as above average stacks. I play multiple large fields tournaments every day but just because I am reaching the final table rarely and that too, almost never winning it, my bankroll growth is slow and I need advice and suggestions. Co-incidentally, many of my fellow players are experiencing the same. I would like to ask for suggestions on how to play better once we reach the money as I am clearly not playing it right. I would pick up on different suggestions, will try to practice them in tourneys and report them back to you and we can discuss our agendas right here. Let's improve the standard of our games together.

Cheers,
Boom !

you are likely playing too tight, you get ITM but can't get a final table means that your stack is not big enough to survive the later stage blinds and you can't fade multiple all ins later on.

Get looser, play a few more hands and don't fade the big all in spots when you need to take them. What will happen is that you will bust out before the bubble of more tournaments, however the times when you win those big flips, your stack will carry you much farther in the tournament. Once you get a few final tables your experience from those will help you get to more 1/2nd place finishes...

Hey there, we'll I guess you may be correct. I do tighten up a little post bubble but before the bubble I play relatively loose to gain chips to reach the table, considering I only play tournaments, I just miss the big money more often than I want to. I however loosen up just before the final table to accumulate some more chips as the table bubble approaches but usually bust out there. What are your suggestions regarding that strategy?

strategy is only as good as those who know what strategy to use at what time. You can't just say i'm going to do this and this, alot of it depends on the table and what they will let you get away with. In general i'm always on the attack, if players let me, i will raise their blinds almost always until they do things that make me change my mind about how i play vs them. I'm always testing players out and don't mind losing a few chips to work out who the weak targets are preflop and who to stay away from more. But in general attack attack attack... I never really worry too much about image, or playing tight so that i can steal more later, people who do that generally are just missing out on profitable situations. Having said all that, be prepared to be put into interesting decisions postflop and to be put in spots you have not faced before, but that is all a part of learning.

I can't really answer anything without generalising things, usually most people play way too tight, not just preflop but 3betting ranges, calling and shoving ranges when short. But obviously i havent seen you play, so no one can really help you that much.

It could also have something to do with variance, if you have played like 50 tournaments i wouldn't worry too much about not going deep in tournaments, however if you have played 2k tournaments and have never final tabled or gone super deep id be starting to question things alot more.

So if you realy want help post hands where you are unsure of what to do in game. Quite happy to look over a few of your HH as well when i have a spare minute, pm me if you're interested.
