Recently ( at the 10c sit n go's i grind ) i have been getting called by what is meant to be mathematicaly incorrect hands ( majority of the fish at these levels dont practice icm ).

heres an example
*folded to me*
i push j10s on the sb with 7bb in my stack
villain will call with Q9o ( a small favorite ) and win ( he also has around 7bb left in his stack )

my question is should i be pushing with a tighter range if i know my opp will be calling with a looser range even if icm dictates i should be doing otherwise ?

In the micro level tournaments you definitely have to take into consideration how loose the players yet to act on the hand are but honestly, you have to push your range of hands before you get so short your looked up by all players on the table making your odds of surviving that push very slim

Playing on ICM, we need to slightly adjust this strategy, depending on how competently it is used by our opponents. (Often they do not know about ICM at all).
The strategy for playing ICM is good if all players at the table know and adhere to it. Otherwise it does not work and you will be too often unpleasantly surprised by the result.

I don't think either of you did anything wrong in that example, basically a flip. Was he in the BB with 7 BB?

idk if it has to do with micro stakes as much as it has to do with position. Was it folded to you and you jammed into the villian in the BB? If so i would say j10s is a hell of a hand with 7BB. you are likely to have a lot of his range beat already and if you dont you still have a decent amount of hand equity against better hands like Q9. also, if he only has 7BB and the small blind is the only other opponent he has to beat, he should probably call with Q9 since he already has a BB out and there is a decent chance he can have another shortstacked player. If anyone else entered the pot before, you probably shouldnt be jamming with only 7BB but your stack being so short also makes it pretty close lol. Idk.... I guess jam in reasonable spots and hope to win, thats what tourneys usually come down to anyways.
