Has anyone had any final table success in these, and can lend some advice to reach that far?
so far i've played 5 of these, 2 of those times being in the last 500/25k to win a couple dollars, and 1 time being just in the payout for a few cents, and then one just completely missing.
My problem is i can't figure out when the right time is to try and take those chances to shove. The first hour is quite frantic with players shoving almost ATC in hopes to hit a miracle flop and just re-buy or leave early. And from this you see how some people are up to ~30k stacks in the first 40minutes.. Unfortunately i generally don't have any money left over to re-buy or add-on, so i don't feel comfortable making optimistic calls early on, when i can wait these maniacs out and get past the break. At this point i've found that players tighten up a lot since re-buys are over, so i take this time to steal with timed shoves, this is currently where i am putting my stack on the line, in hopes of stealing blinds, or being called and doubling up.
in my most successful venture i did this and was able to steal from a 7k stack, up to roughly 10k then i started to be called and managed to win some large pots to bring me up to ~20k and then with grinding + one more or so coinflip i was sitting at about 100k. At which point i was in the top 100 with about 500 players left, unfortunately i was then forced to some tough decisions that would put me in spots for a final table or to bust out here, and ended at my PB of 360th.
So what i'm getting at is when are the most opportune times to try build a large stack in this specific tournament, (or others of similar nature) when re-buying is often an impossibility. Or was my theory of waiting through the mass all-ins before getting aggressive already on the money?
