just wondering what yalls opinions are on preflop bet sizing when the average stack is around 15-30 big blinds. im so used to playing 100bb stack cash games i just automatically bet 3bb plus 1 for every limper but as i get deeper and deeper in the tourney im starting to wonder if doing this with a short stack is a waste of chips or not because of the possibility of getting shoved on and having to fold. like when my stack gets down to 20 bigs. would a min raise be the better play? or maybe even dare i say it limping

A small raise you give a chance to see the flop cheaply

I like to start with 3x, and then move move down to towards 2.2x, but I also think you can tailor the bet size to the villan.

Yea min betting or 2.2x or something later in the tournies is pretty standard. Even limping is ok with certain hands

good hand - big size, bad hand - small size. Big stack - big size, small stack - small size

This is a bad tactic. You show your opponents the power of your hand. Raise one size, with any cards. Your game will not be readable.

I hate to limp. If i am go in for turn -- i bet. 3bb is minimal. Short stack playing in tourney is depending on you current goal. If you need to survive in bubble you can fold even with AA. But in other situations "smaller stack -- more all-ins" can be used. You need to get optimal stack, so you have to take chips from others. And very small stack can not be able to make enough chips

This is a bad tactic for players who cant balancing his ranges. Its like "You must do 4-bet only with KK and AA, and 5-bet only with AA" - this is a real bad tactic))

just wondering what yalls opinions are on preflop bet sizing when the average stack is around 15-30 big blinds. im so used to playing 100bb stack cash games i just automatically bet 3bb plus 1 for every limper but as i get deeper and deeper in the tourney im starting to wonder if doing this with a short stack is a waste of chips or not because of the possibility of getting shoved on and having to fold. like when my stack gets down to 20 bigs. would a min raise be the better play? or maybe even dare i say it limping

In tournaments standard open preflop is 2-2,5bb, but when You will have <15bb You should start tactic called push or fold. You are waiting for the best moment to shove and double up. In first levels when everyone have very deep stack 3bb open is good too.

With stack of 15-30bb and deep-ante stage of tourney, making 3xbet, you must be ready to all-in from short-stacked players, or for pushing from high-stackers, so if you're not sure in power of your hand and not ready to risk with all your chips, take a slow-play position better.

I am for gradually reducing opens down to min raises late in tournaments from whatever your starting point at the beginning of the tournament was (3x,4x whatever it was) I would rather be risking min raises for blinds and antes late.
