We've all been there, played for hours, had a great deep run only to get hit by a bad run of cards and end up not achieving the end goal of winning the tournament. How do you deal with it?

I Feel your pain.

I Seldom play Huge field MTTS
This week alone I've had 3 top 50 finishes - No final table, pokerstars from just 5 mtt's the fields average around 3,000 to 5,000 in the micros.

for me (and most players) The worst thing you can do Is play another If you miss out marginally on Final table after 4-6 hours I usually clock off for the night.

Take a positive from your deep run. move along and be optimistic.

any average tournament player can final table on their day given the run of cards.thats a FACT!
Even the sunday million.
Stay positive and just remember chances are you will get that big win one day if the volume is their

well from the very beginning, YOU JUST DON'T GIVE A F*CK about results......you have to focus on your decision-making and the results will come naturally.....

There's always some degree of disappointment when I get deep then don't win. But it's not like going deep means I'm entitled or deserve to win. Close but no cigar. Oh well, on to the next game.

Hate that feeling. As much as we play, its a 3 or 4 times a day feeling. Smoke it off. :canabis: Then it would be nice if you had a room with fruits and stuff to break like in 2 months 2 million. Bash some watermelons.:viking: I just watch a movie and cry about it.

Yeah that thing happen to me a lots lately.Having reaching the final table only to ends up at 5th at 6th place after atleast 4 hours of playing.I try not to dwell on it to much even though it is easier said than done.I try to look into positive side of it and somehow maybe try to improve myself.

I found something that helps me being "in the game". Every time I dont play a hand I stand up and run in circles in the room. Usually I`m listening to loud gangsta rap music which helps me concentrate in the game, as I dont understand most of the lyrics. Anyway nothing of these helps me more than my new icebox in which I keep my beer and I dont need to go to the refrigerator to get a cold beer.

I know this feeling, but you only win every 7000th time in a field of 7000 players. You just have to play more and more and more :)

Thats online poker.

Nature of MTT online poker is really a long time game.

Even your chip leader at middle stage, no such guarantee of scoring big. :(

I'm alright when the cards don't go my way I can live with that, it's when I play for an hour and half and build a nice stack through good aggressive poker and do something totally stupid to blow up my stack,I get mad and get over it,there's always another tourney around the corner.

Just have to remember most of us are going to fall short of cashing in a tournament twice as often as we make it to the money. Use the after time to go over hand histories and see where it went wrong or if there is anything you could have done different.

Cash

Most of the time it's not a bad run of cards for me but the mistakes i tend to make on my own that leads to my bust out. How do i deal with it ?

A few cuss words, few bangs on the table and then i head to the cash tables.

it's a cliche because it's true: focus on the decisions you made, not the results.

everyone gets disappointed when they don't win. totally normal.

But as far as feeling depressed, or bad about your play...evaluate the decisions you made. If I get it all in with top set on the flop and lose to a flush draw....then oh well...if I lose a big flip at a time when I HAD to take a flip....then oh well. But if I make a stupid mistake, or a dumb bluff, or go on tilt and punt my stack....THEN I am depressed and upset with myself.

Past 2 days I was in 2 1100+ tourneys on Bovada. Took 2nd and 19th respectively. After losing 77 vs 3-9 off.... to take 19th all in pre, the best thing to do is just take a break. After playing for hours and to get so close and then bust, personally I can not play another tournament for at least a day.

Mentally and physically it takes a lot out of you to play so well for so long, and to just hop right back in just doesn't seem to be the best idea!

have played the premier league freeroll in pokerstars, have a good run in the beginning in the month, i have 1870 points by the middle of the month so i will win at least 150$ , but after have a large downswing, cracked aces by marginal hands etc when playing my best poker, this continue for more than 10 days and down to 1600 points to get 20$, i feel really like i have lost my time playing hours for nothing ...
Poker is always downswings and upswings, and it can be in a single tournament so you have to be prepared to see this variance in those startings hands

Yeah, I know that feeling perfectly (every MTT player do). I guess one just gotta stay positive and keep trying... Best you can do is go to bed and fall asleep I guess. It's usually early in the morning anyway when you finish deep in a huge MTT, so I can't think of much more things you can do at that time to overcome depression besides sleeping. Usually the frustration is gone when I wake up next day and I'm looking forward to another session.

First, I go choke a stick, break a brick, and drown a drop of water.. And Once I've gotten all that out;then, I take time to analyze what i might have done wrong and right during certain points in the MTT. Patting myself on the back for the good plays, and lecturing myself on the bad ones. This helps me alot in poker because there is no team in poker. I'm the coach, staring 5, 6th man, bench, and the pom pom shaker. So with MTT, I keep the mindset of a cornerback, who just got a touchdown reception on him...... MOVE ON!! If I want to play good, I mentally have to feel good. In order to do so, I have to remember I can't miss something I never had. Any MTT I buy-in, and I don't place in the money feels like I lost a game seven by 1 point... Great players remember, learn from it, and go win it next time..

Man as mentioned above it is A hard bad feeling,
I have acctually cried in my hands when I acctually ran deep in tournaments but didnt win the whole thing.
I use to beat myself up bad over it and question my play or skill.
When in the long run I should have been patting myself on the back for even making that far.
Now with some positive thinking and meditation I just move on to the next tournament and dont question my play or style or skill.
We cant win every tournament no matter how good we are or our play.
The cards will fall the way they fall and we just have to mentally accept the fact that we played the best we could and did the best we could.
