Hello,

I'm trying to start grouping hand ranges for my sit n go end game. However I have found that the distribution chart for pokerstove is different than the chart for sit and go wizard . Is this because the wizard is assuming that this is the end of the game w/ 4 or 5 left, and the pokerstove is considering all blind levels etc.

Question- Which chart should I use?

thanks

I have a lot of questions about PokerStove. I tried reading the instructions, but they reads as though the guy is speaking a different language to me :p

Wizard is more useful as pokerstove is more general percenteges. But combining the two are helpful. Check out holdem resources for ICM considerations. Gl

SNG wizard uses a hand ranking system, im pretty sure it uses the sklansky hand ranking, so, it basically favours suited cards..

Stove isn't considering anything, it works in a vacuum, it cannot consider anything related to postion, opponants etc

I will only give you hand equity values, like, how AK does against 22, or how AK does against a particular range of hands..

Yah.. we use Pokerstove for different applications (I use it for MTT play.. when reviewing hands... it gives me a better idea for future play... to where it generally becomes alot more intuitive).

ie.... a hand I watched today & had to LOL about it (going to post it in MTT strategy tomorrow.. with more details, player reads, etc.).

We can use Pokerstove to help us determine what equity our hand has vs. a range of hands we put our opponent on.
ie. HERO raises in EP... to 80.... villain 3bets to 400... HERO raises 2,260 (to 2,660) & is allin....
What does HERO need to call with here? (or.. after we've made a call (or fold) we can review if it was +EV or not to take this action... or how close we were). Of course there's other things to consider (ie. we don't always take every single +EV spot in a tourney... although generally we do... we may figure we have a big enough edge with deep enough stacks to pass up on marginal +EV spots... or if it's two deepstacks up against each other, etc. etc... diff. topic).

We plug into pokerstove.. Player1 and the range of hands we put them on here in this spot (early levels). Typically it'd be AA/KK/QQ/AKs,AKo (we might take out the AA.. because this might be played with a smaller 4bet instead of a shove.... but this example is just an example to show how I use Pokerstove for MTT play).
We're getting pot odds of 1.212 to 1 .. so we'd need 45.2%eq for it to be +EV .
eg. if we had AQo here and were considering making this call.. we plug AQo into Player 2 & then press 'evaluate' (after we've plugged in Player1). With AQo we'd only have 24.4% eq... which is obviously a clear fold.
How bad of a hand would player1 need to be shoving with in order to make AQo a +EV call here? Well.. if we plug in 22+,AJo+ we can see that AQo is still -EV as we've still only got 44%eq with AQo in this case.

The numbers used here are a really poor example to use... BUT it'll give you an idea of how to use it when calculating calls to be +EV or not in MTT play. (the numbers used in his hand ex. are kind of an inside joke form a hand played out today, earlier in a tourney where the guy with AQo snapcalled the 4bet shove in early levels).

If you want, I could post some other better examples using Pokerstove to calculate equity.. & for whether or not making a call would be +EV for us (or.. if you want a walk thru on how to use Pokerstove, just pm me or respond here on this post & I'll either walk you through it or answer your questions). when I first checked it out, I found it all a bit confusing but really it's VERY easy to use.
