Hey,

looking for strategies that people use who have been successful in this tournament, i've only cashed once, but I like the amount of play I get for $2.20 and would like to cash a few more times and become a winning player at this limit. I usually play $6.50 or $3.25 STT's and have a decent amount of success, but I imagine I have to switch up my strategy for this tournament.

Thanks in advance:tee:

To beat these you have to be willing to put in volume b/c the variance is so high. If you don't have 20-30 buyins for these I wouldn't bother. Yes you can get lucky and win one of the first few you play for a nice amount of cash especially for microstakes, but you can also run like DEATH in these and have streaks of 10-20 games easily without a cash.
As far as strategy goes, you need to play good shove/fold poker when the blinds get high ( which will happen pretty quick as it is a turbo). Keep stealing blinds and restealing on other people stealing attempts. Good luck in these tho they can be agreat BR builder but also very very aggravating due to some of the vicious donkey beats you can take in these.

Thanks for your reply, I might go back to the STT's as I can cash in roughyl 50% of those, and this 180man turbo is a bit of a shove/donkfest

I like the regular speed $2.20 90 man's on PS, somewhat soft and don't take too long maybe about 4 hours, don't remember as I got rivered on the FT bubble last night so Im sure I missed maybe an hour of final table.

As it happens I just managed to get 3rd place, $42.84 return more than tripling my BR, so I may play another couple of these before switching back to STT's haha

IMO, M value, reads, and position play a more critical role in these then traditional SNG's. However, they can be very lucrative. Much more so then the non-turbo style MTT SNG's. Spending 4 hours for a 90 seater??? ewwww. Major loss of time well spent. Sharpen the ring game and make a LOT more money then falling asleep in a 4 hour snoozer.

Basic strategy is to play really tight, and then charge the heck out of them when you have something big.

Early on getting in cheap for sets is profitable, as people will overplay their top-pair'ish hands.

It gets interesting when it gets down to 20 or so. By then the blinds are high, and it's all about pre-flop play, stealing from the weak, and getting your stack in good against the people who are apt to call or shove with worse hands.

Thanks for the advice, I just played my big hands big, but then sat back and let others take each other out. I was lucky to double up 2hands in a row against big stacks when there were around 40 left and I cruised to the final table, and had to take a couple of chances to make 3rd. 2nd place and I went out on the same hand as well, with only a couple of thousand chips between us!

Umm, major loss of time well spent? huh what? if its time well spent how can it be a major loss. It may not be 4 hours maybe 3, but hitting final table isn't that hard and 25x your buyin for first. Cash games make me fall asleep actually. That is also why I play my normal 9 persons at the same time as 1 of these.

Good point Suit2Please....on my use of the English language and poker comments! :) Play what you enjoy, otherwise your mistakes will become more costly just out of boredom.

I'm a ring player, and the thought of spending 3+ to 4 hours to try and get 1st for $50 is terrible for my brain. Because SO many times you'll spend 3 hours and get nothing....sigh. Play what you enjoy, just like Suit2please said.

I love these tournaments definetly one of my favorites I also like the 45 man turbos. Usually I play really tight til linds get substantially larger and then get a little looser and gradually get looser and looser til the bubble bursts then I tighten up and try and play the est fold shove poker you possibly can. These tournaments are a lot of fun and there are usually a lot of weak players and if you don't mind I would also suggest the 45 man turbos they are really fun and pretty easy to cash in as long as your in the right state of mind
