this is a very difficult style of play and for that to understand it you have to be pretty skilled player and understand the different styles, and then the same study

Maniacs create more variance so if you are not comfortable with that then avoid them when possible. In a tournament you will just need to tighten up and not bluff. Once you do have a solid hand and a good situation you must show guts and not back down. If you get involved preflop against a maniac and you have AK and flop an ace or a king you must be prepared to call down or shove etc. Against other players you might want to proceed more cautiously and just play it straight forward. If you are getting a ton of heat from a solid player top pair may not be good. Against a maniac you will have to assume it is or you shouldn't have been in the hand in the first place. Their range is so wide you will need to go all the way with your hand. Tighten up but do not back down once you are in a fight with the maniac.

If I have position on the maniac I try to play a lot of hands that play well post flop so suited connectors, suited aces and kings, pocket pairs, any two picture cards. Key for me is not to get aggressive with them so I don't don't start playing the 3bet / 4bet game. My strategy is to fold when I don't have the equity, shove with super good draws equity wise (so clean outs to the nuts) and call them down with the goods. Very important to not raise them with the nuts though! (think of QQ+) since we want appear weak and get them to bet with their entire range constantly and they will have to keep playing the guessing game

the best way i know to play against mainiacs it to use patience and position, and not playing scared poker-wiat for a good hand ans set a trap-use posion if he is to act after you-and dont let him bully you off of decent hands-and of course ask the poker gods to shine down upon you-you,ll need some luck as well

I was at a cash table recently (OMH) which seemed to be a Maniac Convention. I was about to leave when I hit a pair of Kings, which turned into a set on the flop, a FH on the turn and quads on the river. I quadrupled my buy-in then left the convention.

The point is not to brag, but rather to say that more often than not, I consider maniacs to be a Godsend. You know that you're going to be paid off handsomely when you do get a good hand. Contrast that with playing at a table of nits. Pocket Aces are pretty much worthless, cuz no matter how you play them, you're either only going to pick up pocket change or you're going to lose big.

Demagog it's funny that when I was reading adamovie's post, the first thing I thought of was just what you said. adamovie I also believe in playing the game just like bullies, and or maniacs do at my table. A good player will get respect at the tables by firing right back at them, and by setting traps for them. Like when you are in a good position with a very good hand. Now this is just my opinion and some may disagree. But if you are last to act, pre-flop or post- flop you can just call, 3bet, or move all in against those type players that make big bets in any position. For me, I like to just call, because more than likely he will do the same the next round. And that is what you want, and that's when you move all in, and most of the time he will back down and the pot is yours. Guys I'm done. This is a shitty post. I don't seem to have any kind of point, GL adamovie

My advice to you is to give up your idea of how to play and read books monyak how to play a tight player, and after reach good results in the tight game to try to play like a maniac and compare these styles

Absolutely. I always do that to maniacs. Over the last table I had to knock out of fools than once.

A mean there is areason why every pro says that ABC is king on most cases :D

can 100% agree to books, althou do some research on what is a good book and what is back, poker is moving in different directions, so some books are obsolete and are more of a interesting read than usefull tool

Do not fall for their game. If you play along, you're gonna lose in the long term. You care about your chips, your playing style and most of all, your profit. These guys do not give a **** about anything.

“When you are mad, mad like this, you don't know it. Reality is what you see. When what you see shifts, departing from anyone else's reality, it's still reality to you.”

well you can't bluff a maniac but they will also be calling machines and you can take advantage of that. of course they will get lucky sometimes.

This is how I've been beating up on them lately.. Nothing better than a maniac on a draw..

Maniacs usually play many hands and tend to their cards and the cards on the Board have nothing to do, so you need to try to exploit this feature of their game

maniacs play a lot of hands and very aggressive. u must adjust your range. u have the chance to exploit them and earn some chips, especially if u have position vs maniac. but u must be carefull and ready because each time u face them, u must know that maybe u will risk all your stack.
