At this point, any serious player understands quality starting preflop hands and what hands play well after the flop. So especially in tournament poker when u reach spot in the tournament when every hand is a preflop shove o fold...is that just like any other table game in the casino? Seems like it is. Think about it.. all you see is JJ + shoving and your only getting called by better or hands you flip with...thoughts?

I think this is one of those things that separates online vs live poker. online poker, even though you see far more hands, blinds move much faster than the stacks can normally build. I see it as one of the shortcoming to actual poker in the online stage. Online poker gets far more people who just want to gamble and that's where these site's money really comes from. The excitement of the luck value keeps them coming back. A well organized live tournament is not like this. I think reason is in the live setting you get many more regulars with some ability willing to get dressed and go out as opposed to the internet where anyone who sees the wsop can/will find a site and hop on with much less money but in much larger numbers. My advice, if you want the real more skillful tournament and there are options in your area, try a live venue for the real skill over luck experience.

Good insight. I do have a lot of tournaments with good structure near me and I do enjoy pllaying. And yes, my post was pertaining mostly to online poker. It just makes me wonder then, are these huge online buy in worth it? I mean yes, anyone can win but when I have to put my tourney life on the line or fold AK or AQ I'm not always feeling great about it.

Guess run good is all important in hitting those big online tourneys.

I don't know if its like every other table game. I'd much prefer to go up against others that may be less skilled than me. The thing about casinos is the table games have it figured out to the slightest edge and will always win in the long run. Even in the coin flips that are present in every tournament, you are going to win in the long run.

I think for long term in MTTs regulars will always be ones who are profitable..And also if you find yourself often tilted online ..change the game..try to find the best structure for you..for example instead of turbo and hyper games I choose more often normal games with slow increasing of blinds..That is more comfortable for me because i have patience

I agree that patience is probably my strong suit as well. You don't always find that in these online tourneys. But I agree with you as well, the patient players who play +EV hands will be more profitable in the long run.

I think all the players that livestream and offer free poker lessons have made players good. Now people understand what ranges people play and what hands to bluff with in certain spots. When everyone thinks the same, then its a tough game. You can still play a little different and use different styles but at the end the edges are very small in NL holdem.

Most table games are not even 50/50. In a lot of cases you are throwing money away by the bucket. With poker the closer you can play to tilt free top of your game poker the more you will succeed. It has gotten more difficult and edges are smaller but even top players slip or tilt and there are still fish to target. I know that the majority of the time I lose it is because I was not playing my best game. There are ups and downs due to luck but that isn't what is most dangerous. The most danger comes from playing poorly when you should not be doing so. Basic house table games this makes no difference. Whether you make perfect choices and are about 50/50 to win or whether you goof around and give away a large edge to the house, you will ultimately lose. Poker is not a crapshoot but there are moments that make it feel this way as you pointed out certain points in tournaments involve a ton of luck. That is okay with me.

Just curious what Casino do you play at?
Also how much is it to play a tournament?
