Hey,
At my casino, there's a sick tourney coming up soon...2k buyin, I wanna say last year 1st place was $250k. No doubt Id be playin with the sharks..probably a little over my head. Ivee done very well in cash (I'm pretty much strictly cash gm) this year..considering taking a shot. I can afford to shrug it off if I lose. Tourney exp..well Ive won a couple of live tournies...but of the $100 buyin type haha with like 80 players...never played big buyins...this will be a much larger field...probably a good ## of legit sharks.

Any good advice going in? I'm usually LAG on cash tbls...but play nitty as hell in tournies (esp early on). Any good tourney strategies?

Any way to kinda reduce the impact of an edge that a pro would have on me? I'm thinking ill limit any unnecessary bluffing/chasing...

Good advice personally I would've stated the complete opposite or so far of the realm of normality that it would've made no sense what so ever except to a Madman, so with that said your advice is by far alot better then mine...Which makes me wonder why did I even post in the 1st place

If possible, find out what the structure will be. How much play it allows should be considered when deciding whether to enter, and if you do, in the play as well. Assuming you're going to play tight, the slower the structure, the better it fits you.

Also, don't go in thinking everyone will be levels better than you. It's more likely that your table will have a mix of players who will range in ability from some you're very comfortable playing against to others who are clearly well above where you're at.

As for using your tight image to 3- and 4-bet, try to focus on doing so against the people who are looser. If you happen to get down to a smallish stack, look for opportunities to re-steal shove, preferably against the loose players as well, while you still have enough chips to provide reasonable fold equity.

The levels are really long. So don't feel the need to play super aggro. you can wait around for good cards early. Don't let the post flop aggro players scare you. There's a lot of bluffing in these.

Thanks for advice everyone.

I made it deep, just snuck in cash (won a couple grand).

Early double up helped (jj got it in vs aa on j63 flop). Could loosen up and make some pplays after that...and I'm pretty good w bigstack. I noticed I got a ton of respect when ii bet..abused a little lol.

I killed my stack on bubble (well 5 players before bubble really)...because of all the aggro going on. Went from avg stack to barely surviving bubble. A couple of times instinct told me to shove 4bet someone preflop...but I backed down (didn't want to bust bubble). Ugh my instinct woulda been right..they didn't have hands. Otherwise had almost no good opportunities to steal (monsterstack to my left..who called off and wiped out stacks bigger than mine with a pretty wide range, just because he could afford to).

Ugh most of the players def weren't out of my league tho...mad that some of them walked out with 100k+! Someday...
