I recently found a leak that was killing my profit. It was playing OOP (Out Of Position) in the blinds. I have a big struggle with it and I have found I have lost money in the long run than have gained. What are some tips I could use to help?

Okay. OOP, dont try to make a play that will make you guess at later streets. You are first to act and our opponent has all the advantage of decisioning because of position.

Goodluck...

You should be losing more money in the blinds than any other position don't worry about it..Unless you have a monster or want to run some kind of bluff then just muck them.

Just give up the blinds more frequently. Only play really strong hands from the blinds or stronger hands when OOP especially against skillful players

Start to fold more of your weak or not that good hands when you are at the blinds position, and you will reduce your losings, if you think though somebody is trying just to steal your blind you can easily re steal when you play tight at BB or at SB.

Forget about speculative hands (Axs, connectors, small pairs) unless vs a bunch of callers -- too difficult to get paid OOP. If not good enough to raise, likely not good enough to call -- exceptions to this, but a solid rule of thumb.

Well if you find you are losing more money in the blinds then you should just play with stronger hands when your in the small blind

It's hard to be a winning player from the blinds. You're almost always OOP, which, even if you have superior post-flop skills, decreases or outweighs this advantage. Playing marginal / speculative starting hands doesn't help either.

I had much the same issue. I seldom ever play from the SB anymore unless its a real monster. From that position it needs to be good enough to make a substantial raise with. Most of the time it just goes in the muck.

I think I know where you're coming from. Some of the "classic" books about poker, written many years ago, often suggested blind defense and almost always calling from the SB "just to see a flop". With today's environment, especially with lots of fish willing to pay to see a flop no matter what, I think it's best to play a tighter game especially from the blinds, simply because being OOP forces you to need a lot bigger hand than you would need OTB. Good question and much success ;)
