Probably the weakest part of my game, both online & live, is when I'm chip leader at a table. I seem to play tighter as my bankroll increases.

I can afford to see more flops as chip leader and I just don't.

I know I should be betting and putting other players with small stacks under pressure but I'd much rather be in the middle of the field and quietly building my stack.

Any tips/suggestions would be appreciated.

I have a somewhat similar problem...I get a large chip lead and I don't tighten up but I don't adjust my play either and before I know it I am a few spots back or mid pack...would love to hear suggestions also...

Are you having problems adjusting to having better odds for marginal hands, or at controlling the table?

In the tournies ive managed to win it seems I am almost always middle of the pack for most of the tourney and often at the final table. I am not sure why this is but I think it might be my style of playing a lot of hands.

I do the same thing when chip leader, I don't adjust my game.
With the tight image, sometimes I made some 3bets and pre flop raises earning some chips like that.

If your stack size is dominant at your table then you can loosen up more than if you are slightly ahead of multiple players. You should also pay attention to situations like being close to, or on the bubble. This would be a good time to use a big stack to take down some blinds from players who are hoping to milk their short stacks to a cash. What you don't want to do is bleed chips in the middle of the tournement when you don't really have to. In this case continue to play solid poker and look for spots to win chips with the least amount of risk possible. In late stages, when you find yourself at short tables and are forced to open your range, it is always helpful to have a large stack. Not only does it give you more possibilities, it helps you overcome bad cards and short orbits.

You should just play based on how many big blinds you have. Being a chip leader with 40 big blinds is a lot different if you're a chip leader with 100 big blinds. With 40bbs, you can't really play tight. You still have to play your game and build your stack. With 100bbs, you can afford to play tighter.

Like most people thus far I dont change my game enough with a big chip lead. I might play more hands in position but I rarely change my Preflop raising range unless I do recognize tight players around bubble time.
