play poker quite a lot online, do pretty well aswell and am a decent standard.

Every friday night ive started going just to a local £15 freezeout with some friends at the casino (its more of a social thing), its not a bad set up, around 40 odd usually enter, you start with 100 BBs and its 30 min blinds.

Its really amazing how completly awful they all are ive actually never seen anything like it, i mean to get any kind of respect at all you have to raise about 8x BB preflop, and c-betting is completly pointless as ace high is the nuts to them most of the time haha

What im doing at the moment for whatever reasons isnt really working (limp with position quite a bit in early stages try n flop a big hand/set with appropiate hands, most of the time theres no raises preflop, and making a standard raise preflop doesnt do anything except build the pot and your gettin 5/6 callers guranteed). Later on im im just playing very TAG, but keep getting caught out when i carry on with like overcards that ive raised big preflop with, missed and just been called down by bottom pair. Saying that you cant just sit around and wait for a big one either, blinds are quick.

Just wondering what the best thing for me to do here? i dont really take it that seriously but its annoying seeing so many terrible donks making decent money for going deep. Anyone else play a similar thing at thier casino?

cheers

This exactly like the tournies at my local club. IMHO tighten up A LOT and when you do hit you need to either protect your hand or get value depending on the flop texture. Overbets will be required in a lot of cases. Don't bluff in the early levels. Once the blinds get big enough and your M reaches 15, start shoving. Realize that you WILL have to win some races to get to the FT and then win at least one more there to cash. With this I almost always make it to the final 12-14 and have had my share of cashes and a few wins.

Ever heard of value betting?

Besides if they don't fold to your cbets, then don't cbet. I mean the whole point of cbetting is to get to your opponent to fold. If you want to improve in those kind of games, find an online ring game full of calling stations (shouldn't be too hard at the micros) ,try to play a little looser and practice value betting. Just remember you don't make your money in poker by bluffing.

I ran into the same problem once: I couldn't raise, they'd call everything; I couldn't bluff, they'd call everything. So I sat back and waited to hit a good hand and I planned to drain them all.
I never hit the good hand... I lost a lot of money.
But it was the worst group of players I've ever encountered and it was so frustrating not being able to beat them.
I never came up with a way to beat them... I wasn't hitting - I was screwed.
All I can offer - patience.

short term they do good, but if your patient and wait it out in the long run you can stack them everytime.

Standard advice is to play Elite Hands in position hard. If you get a lot of callers and the flop doesn't hit then push or fold.

I play a home game where everyone has improved over time, but too many limp and call, you don't see many re-raises and top pair is often enough to go all in, even with poor kicker. I tend to bust out early or make the money by trying to play TAG.

If you can't beat these games (over a decent period) then you need to re read some of the standard books my friend.

Also an observation - you say blinds go up every 30 minutes...happy days, sit on your hands until they turn into monsters :)

just flat call eveything preflop...and i mean everything.. and when you hit your monster get paid off 5 fold instead of getting sucked out every hand

Good way to bust out imo, unless you're very confident in your ability to play postflop and aren't planning on folding every time you limp and miss the board. ;)

you will find a lot more live players playing more for the social aspect so not as good as online players which most are playing to make money and not as much for the social aspect.

Your monster hands will prevail more often then the donks getting lucky on their suckouts. Stick to your strategy and you'll be a winner more times than none. We all encounter terrible players that get crazy luck. I hate to say it, but....that's poker.

this is exactly like the tourneys at my local poker game. All the players are awful, but its still impossible to win.
the working strategy, is to call every single BB at the start when you can afford to see the flop. If you play tight at first, you're gone when the blinds get crazy. after you see those flops and catch a big hand, wait back for the donks to stop rebuying, and hey presto, your in the final 5. now you play normal poker, and you win!
