While you want to tread lightly with a chip leader, you need to embrace a couple of things:

In tournament play the road to win goes straight through the chip leader.

Of all the guys sitting at your table, the chip leader is the most likely to double you up.

So look forward to getting a hand you can mix it up with the chip leader rather than dreading action with him. Yes he's dangerous because he can take all your chips, but just keep an eye on him to start getting a read so you will know when the time is right to make some moves.

My real feeling is that the software, when it goes to all in, prefer rather to kick lower stack player. This happens most of the time when i play i against or when i am the chip leader.

I only play good card against him, only play on good flop, and don't chaise flush or str8 because it never comes against chip leader :)

I also get that feeling that software works for chip leader, but I think thats not the case, they often play wide range of cards and very often they hit something what beats your preflop favourite hand...but however when playing against them you need to play with caution and not rushing with bets on flop

To be the chip leader or to beat the chip leader, that is the question. Based on my own amateurish opinion, I avoid playing the chip leader. I have been one on a few occasion, and hate when people start jabbing at me.

It is wise to focus on the players that take decision before you, don't miss the advantage of having the last word. So the person in right of you, be it leader or under-rated is you primary target. That how time is won, and believe it, it is not about how many players you bust, but how much time you manage to stay in the game.

Play against the chip leader is the best thing to do , as he has a big stack , it will play several hands , defend your big most of the time and that his range is very wide , so if you play with strong hands against him will tend to win out several hands.

first of all it is impossible to answer this question without knowing who the chip leader is...is it a loose maniac or tight conservative? Not all chip leaders are bullies. Some chip leaders can be bluffed and some can not. Some play all hands, some play tighter than anyone else.

THE SOFTWARE DOES NOT FAVOR THE CHIP LEADER. I wont even justify this statement with anything else because it is ridiculous.

Learn who the chip leader is and then play accordingly, just like any other opponent in the field. They will be apt to see more hands from time to time, and depending on your own stack size you can adjust to this and double through them, but its not a guarantee..

I feel you have to be aggressive against the chip leader, especially in sit n gos. Don't get blinded out, try to steal some pots maybe.

Playing a good hand against the chip leader is probably the best thing that can happen to a player looking for a double up. From my experience chip leaders tend to play more hands than they should in the first place. Sometimes it pays off but many times they end up chasing only few outs. The main thing is they like stealing blinds but they usually over bet a hand, especially preflop. Their range is wide and you usually keep guessing what they have. Play a good hand against the chip leader and be very careful when you bluff him cause you just might get called.

Apparently you havent played enought tournaments if you think that way. In long time your better hand will be profitable for sure. Happens. Chin up and gl.

I think the answer depends on how aggressive the chip leader is.

If they are a very aggressive player, and catching cards, then the hot streak will end and you need to be ready to pounce. Tighten up against the CL, and when you get a hand, let them bet into you, raise them up and hope to double.

If they've just gotten to the CL and then change their strategy by tightening up & coasting, then raise, raise, raise. Push the situation and take pots that you wouldn't normally.

Point is - every CL is different and you have to adapt to be successful. But I definitely agree that the only way to win at tournament poker is to take down the one at the top.

Honestly, I avoid playing with the chip leader, because it is really easy to lose all your stack. (just such great cards as AA-QQ and AK are profitable). But sometimes (chip leader uses wide range of cards) I can play with him.

I have no problem playing against the chip leader with good hands, and if I don't have a good hand, I should not be in the pot with him to start with. Yeah they are lucky, but luck runs out, and I've seen many chip leaders go broke trying to play bully every hand. So there is a difference between a chip leader that plays any two cards and wins, and a chip leader that plays good cards, or plays cards that are good for their position. So you have a lot to watch out for playing against them, but they can be beat. GL to you

Pay him very cautiously. Even your Aces against a bigstack, is it really worth it:)

Play against the chip leader

The answer to this depends on the amount of chips that you have in relation to the chip leader as well as the rest of the field. If you have a decent stack then the chip leader is going to want to avoid big pots against you as well, as you are one of the only ones that can hurt his stack. However, if you are the short stack or one of the bottom rung of stacks at the table then the chip leader is going to try to put more pressure on you. In those situations when you have a good hand the chip leader will be likely to put in a lot of chips against you.

Well, if i am bb and chipleader raised or limped and only me to act, i like to make ahressive play with anything...they tend to play more loose, and it is easy to get some off their chips...
