I was just playing in the cardschat fr and had around 19BB.
Position - Button
Villian(40BB) Raised 2.5BB from UTG2
everyone folds to me I go all in with KK
Villian calls with A9s
Villian makes set with board- XXX99

Did I play it right or should I have raised or called?

allin seems very bad play, you gotta pay up stronger after scoring the only allin on the flop which probably would fold

A-9 looks okay preflop, but if the flop is a complete dud, suddenly it doesn't look so good. Probably too soon for you to shove there. Do a 4-bet to about 6BB preflop and then shove the flop if no ace shows up.

Seems like loose call by villain in my opinion. I think you just got unlucky, suggestions of 4-betting don't help what do you 4 bet to? Half your stack? Youre committed anyway then might as well shove, go all in ahead and hope it holds up.

What you did was fine (under most circumstances). You just got unlucky.
In this particular hand, a 3 bet or 4 bet then shove after flop might have worked better. There are no absolutes in poker.

I would be tempted to go all-in preflop too. I hate to have to fold to an ace on the flop. You were unlucky....that being said, the others' advice about small raise, then go all-in if no ace on the flop is sound play. KK is such a premium hand that you want to get paid handsomely for it. It appears to be a 50/50 proposition.

I think The preflop shove is just fine! With 19bb you could call and let one or both blinds come in behind to see a reasonably cheap flop... bad idea... you could fold... bad idea... you could re raise with position... best bet. The question... how much? Going from 2.5bb with 4bb in the middle to say 7bb but this is a significant part of your stack and really commits you to the pot . Shoving is by far the best play, the villain here made a bad call and got lucky.

You should only ship kk there with 10BB maybe 12BB max... Throw in a 3 bet instead of an all in because if you would've raised to 6BB and he calls then doesnt hit the flop, you then ship the flop and A 9 isnt getting to see the turn and river. You want to defend your hand but you dont to commite to an all in with an average stack as well.

I agree, the stack size really dictates a shove. A 3bet would commit your stack post flop and can appear much stronger than the shove. If you are planning a 3bet fold to an Ace high flop than I suggest you flat here(probably the worst option). Here you got unlucky in a life long session you would be thrilled if A9 called vs your KK every time.

If you were 35 BBs effective than a 3bet would be great.

You did what you could. Anyone saying different is just picking. Any raise and you're pot committed. Flat and some random BB gets in with "pot odds".

A9 Was simply a stupid luck play.
You played the hand right.
If you can get all in pre flop with KK then do it.
Anybody says different they're playing "hind sight psychic.
