hey people, just been winning a few DoN games nothing to big mostly $1 buyins but what i noticed was instead of playing the stadard tight KK or AA only hands i played a lot more hands like A k A Q and found i stole alot more pots and in the end won more tournys. so my question really is is it wrong to play super tight most people follow the tight strategy so is playing a bit more loose a way to exploit this?

look forward to some replys

If you only play AA or KK, then you'll be playing less than 1% of your hands. No one can win playing that few number of hands.

You gotta play more than AA or KK. I've gone as far as sixth without ever getting even QQ.

It depends on situations and of course, luck. You can play perfect but still lose. Sometimes, it's worthwhile to shove on a likely coin flip if you are guaranteed heads up.

It would be a shame if you fold everything until you have 10BBs left, then get AA and shove, only to get two callers and lose to a flush or some crap, which does happen, A LOT.

I totally agree...we played HU tonight in the FT freeroll & it was a fantastic finish for both of us. It was your very 1st CC freeroll win And my first time to finish in 2nd place. It could have gone either way, but luck turned at the very end his way! I can't wait for a rematch! It certainly was fun!:D But beware, I will win the next one!! Hehe!:D

The two players I know on CC that play a large volume of DoN's are Custo80 and WurlyQ. I'm sure if you talked to either of them, they would say in the first few levels, playing only AA and KK is the right way to go. Once the blinds go up, you can open your range in order to steal, but early on, very tight is right.

Playing Tight:

Playing tight:
I play your way often and it will work, but you need to be careful. My reason being that I belong to several Poker Clubs and believe it or not, they will soon figure out your playing method. They figured out how I play (usually only when I really really have something) and they have been cleaning my clock. If I raise on the first hand, 60-70% will fold and I win mostly my own chips. I've learned to go slow and wisely now and see what develops. In my opinion, players loosing chips fairly fast will need to tighten up and push if/when you get the chance. When you get to the final table and only have 4-500 chips and the blinds are 200/400, you're getting close to lunch time.

Actually in a DoN that stuff ^, doesn't happen alot.

OP is referring to DoN's.. "Double Or Nothing" sng's. Most of the responses on here aren't addressing DoN's at all.

blueskies... you've gone as far as 6th w/o even getting QQ? Do you mean you went out in 6th (on the bubble) of a DoN?.. or went as far as 6th level w/o even getting QQ?
I've played for 4.5hrs. in an MTT, only getting a single pr (55) in that time. I only dream of seeing big prs.

OP, DoN's for sure are played differently than your typical payout structure of a STT SNG (50/30/20) and as you obviously seem to be aware, they should be played differently. You can find some decent DoN stuff on here.... I'd look up WurlyQ's profile and look through their posts... I'm sure you'll get a decent idea of ranges, etc. Basically you want to be picking your spots & calling tight/shoving a bit wider... but of course 'it depends'.
As far as 'playing the player' goes.... I believe DoN's are more situational (especially during bubble play or closing in on bubble).... any reads might be who's calling wider than they should be... who's shoving tighter than they probably should be, etc.

Oh sorry I thought OP was talking about a regular MTT. I had no idea what a DON is.

The tourneys I am talking about is the Carbon first depositor freerolls. Usually no more than 170 or so ppl. The top 20 cash.

The one where I finished 6th without QQ-AA, I survived several all in coin flips. I tripled up one time with AK suited. I played pretty well for the most part, but when it came down to it, I still needed the cards to fall in my favor.

I finished 6th, 6th, and 7th in three of my first four tries at the freerolls. Thought it was easy. Then the next 4 I never finished higher than 39th as my luck ran out. My final hand in three of the last four, I went in ahead, but every time the other guy hit his card on the turn. Really played the same, but the cards didn't fall my way. It comes down to luck as it always does.

i have not played these yet because i do not have a PS account but from the prize structure id have to say def loosen up more than aa kk! keep where you are at as far as the range is. the main way u want to play is steal the blinds when u c possible from midway on(levels) then push hard and trap when you hit a monster
