Range of Open raise according to table position

I use the following tables only as a starting point for Deep Stack situations (over 40 effective big blinds), since there are several variables that expand or restrict the initial ranges.

The main variables: Tournament moment and structure, Effective Stack, Opponent's profile, Position

You need to analyze each of them to set the pre-flop raise range based on the tables below.

Note: Big Blind does not have an open raise range because he wins the entire pot if opponents fold.
This situation is called Walk.

Have a good game.

I think those are probably good in a vacuum, but I really think you need to tailor to the villans.

I had a coach once who told me over and over, "try to find a reason to play this hand"- and what he meant was do you think you can get the villan to fold with a stab on the flop, is the villan fit or fold, with the villan fold to double barrel, etc etc.

Small Blind looks loose. I just did a open raise range yesterday, and cashed in The League High School. I will try following my chart, and adapting it.

I agree with you, I am not a super experienced player but some things in poker you just can't do them ''by the book''. The graph may says to open a hand in a specific spot but apparently you can't open the bottom of your range if you have shown aggression the last two hands!

On the other hand you can show some aggression with the bottom of your range if you were passive the last orbit/orbits!

After understanding the basics then the next step is to apply situational some pressure in particular type of players. As you well mentioned ''you need to tailor to the villans''.

I think this is one of the key factors if you want to considered a good poker player!! :)

Also thanks to the thread creator for the ranges! Very informative!

Also great thread. Do you consider yourself a loose player, tight or not have a definition of your style?

Interesting. I don't like opening up the range too much in the small blind as you are in such bad position, but I guess it depends on if the BB folds to pressure or is a vigorous defender.

Yes loose game, but everything depends on my stack, and the table, I make notes of everything that is important during the game. And on top of that I apply the range I posted in the post .. more often I am in the SB and the cards I won are in the range, plus the UTG and CF bet on the preflop, I often break .. The range published, I I use it as a base .. and within that I will balance the game.

All the factors...

I feel the range for small blind is very large since you will be always out of position. What is the reasoning for this?

Really nice information, It's good for a start. But poker is really about understading how your opponents play. Just play it like a blackjack won't work in my opinion.

But it helps to have some picture of your range in your head.

Correct friend, this will give you a direction, a strategy to follow, sit at a poker table, or play a tournament without planning, you will certainly fail, and having a plan increases your chances of being a winner.

There are many books that show similar ranges. In my limited experience, I have found UTG and ++ that playing all the ones you have not highlighted are a better option, especially against calling stations. 82o or suited do well, 35o also and 79o I will always see the flop at least.

And yes I'm the one who plays the cards that get people on Tilt. LOL
