Ouch! That is definitely not a good sign. One good way to fix your game is to play freerolls for one week on edge and see how many times you can cash. You may not think this helps, but believe me, there is every poker style of play in a freeroll, and if you can cash that is a good indicator that you might be ready to play in the real stakes again.

Another thing you can do is just move down to the lower stakes, because the skill level is much lower than that of higher stakes.

Hope this helps and Goodluck! :)

Doesn't happen overnight. 80% experience and 20% research. Books, Training sites, reviewing hand history, and forums. Think of it as paying for your college education. I would imagine 90% of players start in the red but its all about improving and eventually recouping all of the cost of education and then being profitable from then on. Stick with it, stay grounded, you will be fine. If you think your gambling at all, just fold and wait for a better spot to put your chips in. Good Luck.

Assuming this is over a significant sample (and not like 20 games or something) and game type, you obviously have room to improve.

I like the idea of the books. I found the three Harrington books pretty good at making me a slightly better than break-even tournament player. There are also a lot of good resources regarding sit and gos. Even if you are a good MTT player, I recommend being aware of the STT strategy. It will help you a lot when you get to a final table.

Then, hand review. Start looking at the last 30 or so hands of each tournament (especially if you find yourself getting blinded out), and try and find spots you may be missing to make a move and gets chips before you're desperate and sure to get called. Looking only at the last hand is a start (can determine if your shove or call was reasonable), but I found that I was often passing on decent spots earlier and then found myself desperate so I ended up making a move with less chips and worse cards -- a bad combination.

Hyper turbos are fun and full of action but there is a lot more variance in those games b/c of the amount of times you're aipf. I haven't read any poker books except for Super System II and it was good entertainment but personally for me nothing beats hands on exp. and learning from my own mistakes. Also you could check out the strategy section here at CC while you're deciding on what book you want. Some good post's in the Golden Archive as well. Good luck ;)

I would recommend deep stack slow structure tourneys over the hyper turbos. DS tournies give you more time to make a decision plus you can try different methods of play (tight, aggressive). Try it for a bit and see if it helps.

If you're looking to gain experience and become a good poker player, 6 max cash games are probably the best. You can then transfer to other formats and rip them apart after beating 6 max. However you will lose at first and it will be hard to become breakeven as 6max is also the hardest but most fun!

Taken me a year of studying/playing the game to be a winner.

you will never get a good idea of what your true RIO is playing these.

they are surely a fun way to spend some time but the rake always eats me alive in the end.

okay doke. where to start, where to start. right, i think this advice will be decent for you, i will try my best to help you to improve. i started playing poker 1 year ago, didn't have A CLUE how to play the game. these were home games, just to basically learn the rules etc. then i went on to the casino, and after a couple of rubbishy online sites i joined pokerstars. at first i played tourny's and was terrible- couldn't get anywhere near cashing. however, in the last 8 months i have been practicing and grinding my arse off. playing close to 3,000 tourny's. on Friday night i was out at a friends, we were playing poker. i lost. i was losing both online and live as i was on a downswing. on Saturday morning i woke up at 7 for some reason after drinking the night before and being up until like 3. i signed up for tourny's straight away. kind of started to go deep in the Saturday micro and the Big $5.50, until it was just the 5.50 left over. i had came close to getting a good cash but had prior failed to. ended up finishing 6th for $1k odd, my biggest cash by far so far. so after going out for a few to celebrate i am feeling pretty good. anyway, basically the morale of the story is that you have to work hard to get good results. grind every day you can. watch videos. watch the pros in action. everything. until you feel good about your game. start off at the low stakes and build confidence by WINNING tourny's. then you have the ability to take down a big event. i have not read any books tbf, if you watch enough content i dunnoo if you need to tbf. keep improving man, i have come a decent way but still far off being great.
at first your roi will be really bad, once you start to improve it will increase too. be confident. prepare for the downswings but also know, you will bink a big score soon and rake it in. gl!
overall advice- play as many tournys as you can.

when i was losing i decided to tighten up my game. I decided not to play so many suited connectors and low pocket pairs. it made a big difference. i was losing a lot of money by playiung qj and hitting a queen only to run into aq. or kq and running into ak after hitting a king. you can usually get a feel for if you are good or not and dont second guess that feeling because it is usually right. my advice is just to play tight

ofcourse i play tight lol thats old advice and indahood LOL your advice on what kind of tourney i should play...i mean im fine with mtt just not sng lol and wish i could play on poker stars even tho my roi is probably gonna be worser

and considering i only have like 3 dollars on carbon and like 12 on bovada what should i be doing with that money... i mean theirs no apparent bankroll management for that (that i know of) should i just play the lowest tourneys i can find and try to come up from nothing i dont want to do another deposit it gets me soo down lol

are you from America like? and yeah just play the lowest ones and some freerolls. doesn't really matter if you have 100 buy ins at that level because 1- as you said you are maybe unable to atm. and 2- donks shove Q10o etc on the first level or two so just pick them off :)

i think patience is probably all u need!! dont play every hand, or limp in!! i see alot of players do that!! and if u do limp in alot, make sure u are ready to call a raise!! if not, u just wasted chips!!

ok so play lowest buy in i can find and pick the donks off:p hopefully i dont get picked off lmao

well im gonna go nrm crazy and play a 2.2 on bovada :( XD but after that im just gonna play the 1.1 mtt i dont like the sng cuz you play like and hour with out a chance of making any thing more than like 3.4 dollars

ok so i think im gonna play sng's because my roi is -20% while my mtt are like -100% lol

Reading books is not enough to improve your game and results. It's only a step. Learning from reading them and then applying what you've learned at the table have to happen too.

People are overrating the role of books and sites....

YOU NEED TO PLAY A LOT OF POKER TO BECOME A WINNER THESE DAYS.

If you don't plan on playing hours and hours a week for a yr or so...forget becoming a winner.

It really is somewhat that simple.....you cannot expect to outplay people that play 8+ tables 20+ hours a week by single tabling for a 8 or something.

Why this is shocking to people is beyond me.

I try and play as many of the carbon freerolls as possible if your bankroll is low. The freerolls are great practice for any of the low stakes MTT. The same skill level is present in both. I know the freerolls are a pain, but no risk and lots of practice. I started that way when I first played online. I lost most of my first deposit in the first day and became determined to rebuild without depositing more. Build your skill, and that will translate into building your bankroll.

well, my 2cents
1st, that a8 hand- dont play, unless maybe on the button vs tighties
and always raise if you're going into a hand

2nd Id say stt/sm. sngs are great
sure not as much profit, but quicker and way less VARIENCE
no matter how good you are, a lrg field mtt is a tough cash and a serious long game to make a nice profit (min cash is pointless)
ive been grinding 9-18man SnGs for a good bit now, with okay roi and working on moving up buyins, Im actually getting coaching now and still learning so much after so many yrs
you can never stop learning

best advise- find the game that works for you- within your buyin and master it before you change buyins/game types...
(tho me, multi tbls, holdem, razz and some horse all at once- dont try that at home;))
