hey everyone....any help would be appreciated.:) I'm all about doing satellites and free rolls into larger tournament online. I seem to do pretty well at it and my bankroll is very limited online atm. I typically do well in the larger tournaments....I just busted out of a $215 tournament on Carbon earlier today....purely on variance. Let me explain.
I was doing well in the tournament, I was patient, playing solid holdings and picking my spots well in the early going. It was super stacked but I was table chip leader and had built a good table rep. The table was pretty solid with good players at this time. It seemed to me that everyone was feeling each other out. So a few go out and towards the 4th hour of the tournament, some new faces started to show, who were assumably planning on throwing down a couple thousand to get in the running for the money. It seemed to totally unbalance the table, as they pushed a lot of junk hands all in not 3 or 4 time....but over 10 times....when they got knocked out, they would be right back to dish out fresh trash for us to deal with. I wasn't disappointed in my play. I was calling with premium hands (i.e. AKs VS. A-10os...which by the way, ended badly for me...he hit a 10 on the river), and eventually they pushed me out of the tournament, either from terrible luck, or just not wanting to commit preflop to any one hand.
So any help in dealing with these types of players would be much appreciated....thank you so much for your help:)

you have no choice but to play the variance game with them and get your money in good. absolutely nothing you can do about it except slowly blinding out.

Yes, you will lose vs these players a lot because you often have to flip with them preflop (Advanageously, but still flip.) but they also help build stacks.

I hate the situation too

Players like these really get under my skin.....I don't let it effect my game, but they take all the value out of poker. I wish there was a better way, but I'm sure you're right in this scenario. Thank you for the feedback Karametric. It is appreciated.

I do not understand you, first you talk about freerols and satellites and further on you are talking about 215$ buy in tourney where u involved!

standard is to have at least 100 buy in (15 minutes blinds), but i suggest even more especially if you playing turbo tourneys.

215*100=21 500$ bankroll you need at least to be regular at this level! Well you can take some shotts, so i assume your bnkroll is at least some thousands. :D

obviously he freerolled his way into the mtt.

@op: embrace the variance, the only way to get through it is to play the volume game......lots of volume will even out variance quicker. Regarding the players jumping in at the end of late reg these will often be the situations where you have lots of chances to grow your stack even higher, ul for it to go in the wrong direction but all part of the game and not really any way to get around the variance thus we must embrace it.

it's a good question....Carbon had a special free roll for very active players to get involved with that offered the 50 top players a $215 coupon for the much larger main event. I was able to get one....but it was a one shot deal....not enough bankroll yet to reenter like the whales.

It was difficult building the chip stack I had. The table was really nitty at first, and it didn't really change at all until the wolves came in. After about 3 solid hours of playing the table, I had about 2 and a half times the starting chip stack. It was very unlike the tourneys I typically play that everyone will make mistakes pre-flop and on every street imaginable.

But anyhow, thx for the advice man. I'll try to be more active next time to scoop more pots.

Maybe you can pick better tourneys where unlimited rebuys are not an option? When you can only fire one or two bullets in a game, players tend to take it more seriously, and that might help reduce the variance you're experiencing now.

this is carbon poker he's talking about. to my knowledge they don't have ANY MTT tournaments that don't have infinite rebuys for a certain time period. It also seems to be the trend everywhere that I've been that such tournaments with no or limited rebuys are few an far between. Makes sense since that's just profit for the site, but it's quite infuriating when you get knocked out by someone who's already rebought 5 times.
