Ive played about 25 freerolls so far and Ive made cash in 3 of them. Not sure if this is good or not?

But Id like to get better.

Ive been doing a lot of reading here at this forum and other places and I pretty much got down what Im hearing is the best strat.

Here is how Im playing... (Feel free to tell me if you think Im doing anything wrong or leaving out anything important)

In the beginning... (against the super aggressive all inners)

-Play position (as always)
-Call with ak aq kq
-call with pocket pairs in last position
-Raise with qq kk aa

Mid stages...

Assuming there are tighter players on the board....

Play looser hands (in position) like k10 a10 q10

If the bored is tight I play slightly looser if its aggressive I play tight.

The problem I am having is that many times I get impatient.

For example, Today I was playing in a freeroll, and the cards were jut not hitting, and I was getting hammered by one ALL IN after another.

This went on so long that I was sitting at 600 chips and the blinds were climbing...

And even at this point in the game the donkfest continued with one ALL In after another.

So out of fear of being blinded out of the game I was holding a marginal hand (q9) and decided to go all in when called.

I was lucky and hit a str. But it kept me alive non the less.

So my question is this...

Is this a wrong strategy when Im up against a wall?

Not every game is this bad but there are times when it just seems the donks are unbearable.

I did get ONE good hand (qq) and only raised 60 chips... perhaps this is where I messed up? Maybe I should have raised preflop with qq and hoped to get someone to go all in on me?

If I would have done this I would have probably been in a better position later in the game.

Any feedback is appreciated.

Thanks!

PS This is my first post, what a great forum!! Already learning a lot from the threads. Thanks!

The main problem with most freerolls is that players have nothing invested so any amount of cash is a bonus. Hence you end up with a donkfest because there is nothing to lose. To win one of these, you need to win most of your coin flip hands, you need your premium hands to hold up in the face of one or more villains shoving.
What kind of info [if any] do you have on any opponents? You should be making notes. If you see a player shoving with air, make a quick note, its free, but a valuable source of info.
For me, freerolls just frustrate the hell out of me so I rarely play them. IMO, you dont learn a great deal by playing freerolls, but if you are starting a roll from zero, good luck.

Free rolls

My advice is this A:remove KQ from your all in call list
B: start raising with moderate hands to try and loosen up your table image.
C: In my opinion cashing in 8%-10% should be possible making the final table should be about 60% of those times and winning about 3%-5%( of total played) numbers arent exact but they are my base goals for free rolls (my expectations are higher for buy-in events)
Hope this helps

Look for cheap flops and try to get in as much as possible on theFTR when you hit Don't play cash games the same way you play FR's. Play opposite the table. If it is an all in donkfest wait until you have a great hand.

While not useless, ITM % (in the money) is a stat that I think quite a few beginners over-emphasize. What you count in the end is the money you've won. It depends on the payout table, but it's usually better to place high one time than twin the min a number of times.

As for freerolls, if you're talking about the open ones with huge fields and small prize pools, they're better than playing for play chips, but the level of play is awful, so you're better off getting away from playing them as soon as possible.

It's also much better to focus on improving your game than on winning tournaments. As you improve, the wins will come.

In freerolls people love playing, and calling with Ax, so if you get AK, just raise and re-raise a lot. Optimaly All-in.
