What is the best way to get better at MTTs?

*Should I just read a few books?
*Study where I went wrong in my HH (bit time consuming for nothing)?
*Get a MTT coach (at $75+ph where MTTs last for hours, this doesnt sound like a great deal)?
*Sign upto a poker site like pokerpwnage who are supposed to be great at teaching MTTs?
*Get someone to sweat me during a MTT so they can tell me where i'm going wrong?

I want to get better at MTTs. I find myself playing too tight or leaking chips in stupid spots. I know it's hard to constant cash in MTTs but some guys are making a habbit outta it and scoring big. How hell do you get to be that good?
My MTT graph is a constant downline which makes me go :( So let me know how can I get better in MTTs?

Thanks.

You know my answer. :p

I do indeed, but if I was going to go for that then i'm going to need to save up some monies.
I've been looking into PokerPwnage. They have a free 48hr trial. See what happens.

I find that a good strategy is to play pretty tight for the first hour - if you can increase your chip stack by 25% at the end of the first hour, then you're actually in a good standing (even though it may not feel like it). Of course, play your monster hands to get the most value. After the first hour, you can get a bit more aggressive.

I wouldn't recommend this, but I know one guy who let's the timer run-out on every hand. This slow-playing annoys everyone, but the theory is "play slow, stay late". It usually gets him to the money, even if it is only in the lower ranks.

ukaliks, no doubt your probably better at mtt's than I but I did find some books useful and they definitely improved my game. Furthermore most of these books can be got in the libraray for nothing so they are a no cost/little time way of expanding your range of knowledge.

What's the worst it can do except send you down a spiral of play you don't want to try but feel you must. A spiral from which you may never recover.... err ....

books, vids., railing a few select gd mtt regs., talking with mtt regs., reading posted MTT HHs, reviewing your games via auto-replayer,... reading some decent articles written by tourney regs. (< there are some great ones out there... TonyDunst has a handful of well-written mtt articles), watch some more training vids., rail a bit more, read some more... & of course play a bunch inbetween...
Then do it all again... & again. Simple. Oh yah.. then 'run good'.

Training sites are a good idea, a coach would ideal but expensive. Try the instructive books by pearljammer/apestyles/rizen (Winning Poker Tournaments) and "Kill Everyone" by Lee Nelson. Play a ton of MTT´s because of the variance.. But most important thing: be aggressiv, especially in the mid/late game ! :boxing:
