Hoping CC isn't thinking *sigh yet another MTT thread lol* Anyway let me cut to the chase.

I'm in profit from playing MTTs roughly $400 online ( £250 GBP conversion ) and i got into the money last month in a local MTT which gave me a profit of just over £700 ( 1084.09 US Dollar )

The problem is I've not had a solid pre meditated strategy playing these tournaments and apart from reading the first couple pages of moshmans SNG I've not studied ( Which is why i am now & taking it serious ) of course being a winning player is all good but i want to be a good solid player.

I'm focusing on playing a tight aggressive strategy during low blinds for the next 10-20 tournaments over the space of a week online as part of my own study. Going to be disciplined and stick to premium hands only for the best part of my low blind play.

Couple of questions, hopefully it don't sound donkish lol

What if after a hour and so of playing i haven't held any premium hands and the blinds have ate up 17 to 25 percent max of my starting chips? ( 500-750 of 3000 ).

Do i loosen up and start playing speculative & strong hands to keep a float?

When is it considered mid tournament? Is this based on the cost of blinds or how the board is playing

Also i read in a post when i was reading these threads that a drill a poker coach taught his student was playing 2 hands a hour and still paying attention & observing the table when not playing hands, anybody tried this if so what did you learn? ( I hope the person who posted this don't mind me trying it lol )

Any input and other drill suggestions i should try would be extremely grateful

Also it would be great if another player wanted to study with me ( Please no time wasters ) if so feel free to private message me your email/skypes on here.

pokerstars has live training on their poker school online, lots of great players there willing to teach. I find that when I take notes on other players it helps me focus. Hope this helps, good luck.

Speculating is a bad idea with a shortening stack because you don't have enough money to imply your odds of hitting.

What you should probably do is start using those semi-good hands to steal in late position, exploiting the tight image you've built for yourself. If your table is very loose though, just continue playing ABC TAG and wait for them to pay you off when you hit.

One drill you can try is to watch a table when you're not playing. Try to figure out how each person plays, what their ranges are, and how those ranges are narrowed down by different sequences of actions. You want to be doing this when you're playing too of course, but it may help you to get used to it when you're not. Since you won't be distracted by playing, you'll be able to focus your full attention on the players.

are you talking about multi-table sit and goes (50 plyrs or less) or true multi-player tournaments?
I wouldn't try to put Moshman's s&g strategies into a mtt. I recently bought a book called The Poker Tournament Formula by Arnold Snyder. It was written specifically for low buy in, live (mostly) trnies. If you learn only one thing from the book, memorize and become proficient at the basic position strategy. It was the only reason I cashed in a trny that I had never cashed in before. I can't say enough about this book and I haven't even studied the whole thing yet.

You should be playing fairly TAG early in mtt's with good structure. Having said that, you have to take chances even in the first hour. You are bound to find someone who is limping too much or someone who is raising way too many unopened pots from the HJ/CO/BTTN. You need to play back in these spots. Sure it ups the variance, but mtt's by nature are high variance. Play solid Tag style and isolate limpers and 3bet guys situationally. If you are simply card dead and your 3bets and isolations run amuck, then you eventually get to the point where you look to push/fold.

Ranges, ranges, ranges. Be able to narrow this down on each individual street. Also discipline in picking your spots. Tourney play is all about accumulation chips. Protect your equity in the tourney payout. But yeah man I am down to go over things with you whenever you want. Feel free to PM.

I'm just start to shift from way to TAG to opening up my game. Just an idea for you to try for a tournament or two.
Instead of sitting down saying this is the strategy that I am going to play, see what the dynamic of the table is. Will they let you get in cheap with garbage and pay off if your hand hits? Do your raises get respect, become family pots, or get laughed at by the enemies constant all ins? Is there a couple maniacs that won't let you play small ball. Are you willing to go bust against those same maniacs is you have a shot at them?
Come in with a fluid strategy that can adapt to the table.
