Hello, quick question all.

As iv said before i'm a big fan of MTT's and even the MTT SnG's.

I prefare playing in the MTT's where the rounds are 15minutes as you actually have time to sit back and wait rather than having the push with your half decent cards as the blinds keep creeping up on you relative to your stack size. I hate feeling rushed in MTT's and pressured into playing hands i normally wouldn't but feel half the time at least i'm having to do so. I understand there are times you must push and times to sit back etc, but it seems to much pushing and luck drawing to continue in the tournaments.

I'm just wondering what the difference between LIVE tournaments and online ones apart from the obvious of actually being slower in terms of cards being dealt, body language etc.

What exactly are the blind rounds and stacking chip sizes? I'v heard some tournaments give 2hours of a certain blind size!! true or not i dont know?

I am a patient player and can wait in the longer rounds in on-line tournaments and can go quite deep regularly. I'm a tight player but play aggressive when i have the hands to back it up, I'm not just one who will try limp in the money and do go for final table every time.

The same applies to the 10 minute SnG's, although in my eyes they are still too fast. I hate the turbo games as i think its more luck involved than picking of your oponants with good hands in the longer rounds.

Ideally i'd like to find an online tournaments thast offers bigger starting stacks aswell as longer blind rounds, like maybe 30minutes i think i'd be a lot more succesful in than the 10minute rounds. I'm a player on pokerstars but cant seem to find any...is it just not heard of in online MTT's?

Thanks in advance.

Don't sit too far back you'll fall of your chair ...

I think the general theory for every MTT is to play tight to begin with and loosen up as the blinds get higher and the pressure mounts. You will not be playing a lot of tournaments where you can just cruise to the final table, well you can but your stack will still be fairly small by that time (at least most of the time)

Yeah live tournament rounds last longer but that is, and you said it, because there are a lot less hands dealt per hour. I'm not a live specialist but usually 2 hours live will be about the same as 30min online (really need someone who plays both a lot to confirm this) so I guess it's a bit slower.

If you like MT SNGs then go ahead play those. I don't know about pokerstars but full tilt has double stack and even superstack tournaments (for the same level time). Pokerstars must have them too.

Good luck

In a different thread someone was talking about only playing deep stacked tournaments on pokerstars. Something about an $11 tournament that takes hours upon hours. I'll go look it up and give you a more clear response.

"If you're referring to the 12:00 $11 Deepstack on Stars, 5,000chip/30min. levels... this tourney is INSANE!!! To suggest playing this tourney to build a bankroll... whoa.. idk.. I don't think so. This tourney takes over 12hrs. from start to finish for a playing field of less than 2,000 entrants, 1st place usually winning just under $2k. I've played it only once. I cashed but played for ~8hrs. to win $50. That was ~2yrs. ago. I've considered playing it again... but... umm.. idk... it's gruelling, lol. There's TONS of time to play poker in it though. I actually might play it again some time when I'm planning on putting in a full day mtt session on Stars.

There are other decent $11 buyin mtt's on Stars with 3,000/15min. or 3,000/10min. There's 3 of them per day. The $5 mtt at 13:00 is similiar. There's also an $8 along the same lines."

Live MTTs with two-hour levels are rare - usually they're reserved for high (ie: five-figure) buy in tournaments like the wsop Main Event / WPT Championship / etc.

Keep in mind too that you see a lot less hand per hour at a live table than you will online so even if a live tournament has 30 minute levels it'll still play a lot more like an online turbo than it will a regular speed online tournament. You might only be getting 10-12 hands per 30 minute level, which is probably less than you'd get in an online tournament with 10 minute levels.

I played in my first live tournament last night.. the levels were only 20 minutes and someone was right in saying that this played out very much like an online turbo. Didn't manage to increase my stack in the early stages and therefore it turned into an all in or fold game for me in the latter stages.

Started with 7K chips with the first level blinds at 50/100.

Hope this gives you a feel of how a live tourney works :top:
