Hey guys

I've been playing MTTs for around a year now and it is my favourite format of poker but here's my question are they profitable to play constantly or do I need to switch it up:

If you already play them for a year you should know if they are
profitable for you... :)

In the long run good players calculate with winning approximately 3 - 4
times their buy-in on average...

If You like tournaments and learn a solid strategy for MTTs You can
definitively make some money playing them.... But You must also be able
to keep up your best game during times in which You get busted by lucky
rivers for your opponents and don't win a single cent.... You must follow
good bankroll managment if You wanna be a profitable MTT player.

My advice is to look for smaller MTTs in the beginning....
If You jump right into the big ones at pokerstars with 1500
players then you must be ready to wait a while until it is your turn to
go to a final table.... I found smaller fields much better for noobs as
You dont have to stay focused for too long and get motivated much more
when You can make it to a final table every once in a while

Why change if you enjoy them? Study how to get better and your results will improve.
Also, try live mtts, I started playing them for small stakes, AVG. 50usd buy in, and fields are weaker.

They are surely profitable but over a large sample size.

You can get lucky right out of the gate but for most it is a long grind. Hence the term grinding.

Smaller fields are much better as the variance is lower, but your payouts will be lower also. I am currently not rolled to really grind mtt's like I want. I just grind freerolls and under $1 mtts.

Personally I believe they are more profitable than cash games.

They can be very profitable, but given the extremely high variance in MTTs its very easy to lose money playing them. You must be committed to practicing good bankroll management to be profitable. What "good" means varies depending on who you ask. Some say you should have 50-100 buy-ins. Others are more conservative even going as high as 300-500. Its up to you and what you feel comfortable with given your personality and play style.

[COLIf the tournaments are profitable, but still implies good management of the bankroll, you can go through tough sessions where the variance is not in your favor and you can lose the money quickly, the best thing is to play a percentage of what you have in banking, if you have 10 thousand dollars you should play no more than 200 dollars per day, in my experience I have won the hot of 22 of 9 thousand dollars, withdraw 5 thousand and the others I left to continue playing, I played between 200 and 300 per day and the variance led me to stay at zero in a short time, I hope it serves. Good luck .

If the rake is not crazy high, you have enoughe edge and levels and prize structure is sound, you can beat them.

They can be very profitable. I'm playing them for over 1months after a big break and in every tourney i'm like x3 from the buy in. So they're really profitable for me. I'm only playing HOT, BIG and Bounty Builder on pokerstars same buy in price. Playing only this 3 tournaments per day.

I think that tournaments are very profitable .. They just have a minus: They are very long and you need to have a lot of time ...

You've been playing MTT's for arund a year now and it is your favorite format of poker.

So here's my question....

Have YOU been profitable in playing them constantly?

I AM NOW EAGERLY AWAITING YOUR ANSWER....while drinking my coffee and playing in a MTT and reading CardsChat with the TV on behind me in the background, sitting in my recliner.

No hurry, take your time with the answer...
I'll check back in later. :stoned:

Yes they are profitable, but you must be patient and on the other hand do not play like a routine, enjoy!

Any poker mode, with bank management and study is lucrative.

They are definitely profitable over a long sample size.

If you have been playing for a year and are not winning you should put some time into studying short stack play and understanding tournament fundamentals (Harrington on Hold'em tournament books are great) and Jonathan Little has some more recent material (among others).

Do you play with a HUD if you are multi-tabling?

I'd also suggest watching your opponents and learning to put them on some basic hand ranges based on their play - then practice playing aggressively when you are ahead of your opponents' range (e.g. if someone raises 30% of the time it folds to them, you don't need a premium hand to play back at them).

Good luck to you! :D
