Hey all,

I recently switched to mtt's (mostly turbo's) from cashgames.
Now I really feel like I'm getting more addicted to poker, I have more trouble quitting, and put other things aside to play.
Now I don't want to quit poker, but I feel like maybe I should go back to cash games?
In mtt's you'll have a lot more coinflips , and so you gamble a lot more.
While in cash games you try to only get it in with the best.
I've played around 50k at 5nl FR with a bb/100 of 8.
Should I quit mtt's and move back to cash games?
I'm not a losing player in mtt's. pretty much breakeven. So I'm not worried I'll blow up all my money as I'm also playing within my bankroll. But I'm starting to get a little bit worried.

Btw, I know mtt's are also a game of skill and it's not pure luck, But I'm just pointing out you see a lot of coinflips so you're gambling a lot, would this make it more addictive?

thx!

i dont know if you can call them addictive , perhaps you get excited by the huge prize pool , the truth about mtts is that they require a huge amount of emotional control and they cause a lot of stress , as you said you will have to take flips to win also you will have to play for 8 hours to win something , i grind them for now but i plan to quit them in the future for cash games.

If you are doing well at cash i dont recomend playing mtts , you need a completely different mindset and understanding to do well , you can manage your time better with cash since you can leave or join the table whenever you want. If i played mainly cash i would at best play only the saturday/sunday mtts on stars because they are too good to pass and they have free satellites

I pretty much only play mtts or multi tble sngs.
Sometimes I will play the tripple up single table sng,but 98 percent of my game is mtt.
Addictive ??? I dont know about that to much, I just feel for an everyday grinder I would rather devote my time to tournaments.
The prize pools are always good considering if you were playing a cash game for the same buy in amount of the tournament who knows how long you sit there to even get close to first place prize money in mtt.
I know for alot of people like myself it is hard to make the transition from cash to tournament and vice versa.
There is an old saying that most successful cash game players are not very successful in tournament play and vice versa, most tournament players are not very sucessful at cash game play.
Obviously I change my style when playing cash and when playing tournaments, but I think that is where some people have the problem.
Anyway never did answer your question lol.
HMMM :)

I myself find cash games to be a little boring and slow. I do prefer MTT's because of the action I just find them more fun to play. But I do not really like turbos at all I try my best not to play them.

I say play what every you seem to enjoy the most because not matter what if you are not enjoying it what is the point

poker is addictive and thats pretty obvious.lol. im sure nobody here would preffer to do anything except play poker. so either you like cash games more or either you like mtt's,its all the same. addiction is addiction.try to spend most your time playing the ones you like the most and you think can be profitable.

thanks all,
Well I really enjoy mtt's because there's more action at the micro's.
I quit the FR games because grinding micro stakes FR is a terrible grind, even with good table selection you're sitting at a table full of nits.

I have actually played a couple of hundred hands 6-max and I did really enjoy them.
Would you suggest mixing up 6max cash and turbo mtt's a little? From what I've read both require a LAG style so I think it won't hurt to mix it up? Or would it influence my play in a bad way?

In my honest opinion. if your playing cash. 6-max is THE only way to go. its funner, its faster ,its more action packed and its great experience and makes you a better player cause of all the action. as far as turbo MTT's, NO i do not like them at all cause they are a true gamble and there is no poker involved except for luck.if your gonna play tourneys ,play the ones with 10minute blinds at least.

Thanks, I'll stick to 6max.
And on your comment about turbo's being a true gamble, I don't agree on that part, yes, there's a lot of luck involved, but like in any form of poker, in the long run the better players will have a big edge over bad players.

yes the good players will have an advantage to the bad players but still, its the fast pace of the blinds that will make you have to take bigger risks.thats what i meant by true gamble. its like, the second you win a huge pot and your in your comfort zone(blindwise),the next minute your back to average stack and you gotta start hussling again.

That is the way I feel about turbos as well. Always feel like I am in a push or fold situation.

Stick to MTTs bro, I enjoy them much more then I do Cash games. Skill does come in a lot in tournaments as well, as far as coin flips go, just make sure you stack is bigger than the one you're going against. Get in some CC freerolls too, their fun and the skill is unreal, start there and then start playing in more MTTs

couldnt agree with this one more. at least preflop that is. if the flop opens and you have a monster against a monster stack then go with it. But calling an all-in against another monster stack with hands like pocket Queens or even pocket Kings is not something i ever feel comfortable doing. better pick on small to medium sized stack if you wanna play the pre-flop shove game.
