Guys n Gals,

I'm starting to get back on the low stakes MTT grind. I would appreciate some ideas and feelings about ACR. I feel like some of their guaranteed tourneys are a pretty good value for a 2.20 or 3.30 buy-in. How do you deal with the 3 hour and sometime 5 hour late registration periods?

Do you think it is best to get in early and grind away or wait until the antes kick-in and blinds go up some? If anyone likes to wait, how long? Until starting stack is 20 BBs or 10BB?? Or something else.

Any strategy tips or your experience would be appreciated if you do not mind sharing. I would like to hear from people who are actually playing these games and not just people who think they know how it should be done. Thanks

I think the best option is start to play in first level of the tournament :) Very tight at the beginning and looking for double up against some donk :)

Start with 20 or 10bb using late reg is gambling

Hi,I agree with Edson.
I think that one should spare enough time for the tournaments he chooses to play and the best option is indeed to register early and play deep for as long as possible, especially that I opt in for the small ball poker strategy.
That said, I think it is hard though to commit to the low stakes tourneys if you have a day job, if you know what I mean.

Late reg tournaments

I often find myself either having a decent stack and blowing it on a flip trying to double up or I can be the guy that holds out and has a short stack around the time the late reg is closing. Sometimes I feel it is almost the same thing to buy in late and hope to win a flip instead of wasting 3 hours of my night to lose a flip before the late reg ends.

Pros will probably tell you to late register. But also depends on the tournament format.

Personally I like to play from the start, but I play very low buyin MTTs.

I agree, i think so very good guaranteed tournaments in acr, and yes the best option to play first levels in tournaments,or if you do not have time play turbo super turbo races.

If your post-flop game is weak then waiting until you will be in shove/fold mode would be optimal.

If not, you want to get in as early as possible and build you a stack to pick off those late regs who come in shoving/folding.

I always like to start at the beginning to try and build up your chips and get a nice stack for the later stages.

I try to go into the tournament for 20-30 minutes before the end of registration, my game is not so good that would sit on the final table. And when I go to the end of registration, I find myself on the bubble and win a little.

Start as early as possible always.

This will be lowest variance and highest edge.

With the low $2.20 bi I would almost always get in early. there are situations that if it were a freeze out I may fold. However, depending on the blinds and with the option to re-buy it may change my folding/calling/betting ranges.

The table will always dictate my initial tightness / looseness--not the fact that it has a long reentry period.

For me, this dilemma has been solved by the legislators of my country, you can register with us in the Czech Republic only when the half guarantee is chosen :)
it provoked me to apply for a change of citizenship and not have a family that is very fixed here, live in germany or better in Mallorca, many of our good players are forced to play from abroad or get fictitious places to stay or risk playing through the ...
to tell the truth it's discriminatory and it also wants to change the game ...

I try to start the tournament from the very beginning because at the beginning of the tournament there are a lot of weak players !!!

Shallow stack is more comfortable me so I go for late registration maybe not as registration closing but somewhere my starting stack is between 25 -40 BB.

Everyone is different try different stuff and see what you are most comfortable with.

I think it depends on how long you can play your A-game. If you are one of those players that starts to get tired after 8 hours of grinding you might want to start midway through latereg so you dont burn out.

However, If that isn't an issue for you then I recommend playing from the beginning!

Better to register from the start and try to build up a stack. Play tight, solid, in position/with proper pot odds. Avoid all-ins or flips early on whenever possible. Still, even if you play perfectly, most of the time you'll probably bust and need to rebuy or re-enter a few times, so make sure you're sufficiently bankrolled for these situations (300-500 buy-ins for tourneys). bankroll management is key to dealing with high variance of MTT's.
