Hi everyone,

I was wondering what everyone's threshold is for going (open/raise) all-in in a MTT.

When do you start widening your range or even shove? when you have about 15 bb left? 10bb? 5bb?

What is a good guideline?

Most people seem to go between 10 & 15 BB...Depends on the table.

10 - 15 BB is the time where I start to look for a shove-able hand/spot!
You can even start shoving on like 20BB, depends on the table and the kind of tournament.

I start looking for all-in only when I have under 6-9 BB's I think that 10 or more is enough't to just call BB with good cards (A-J A-Q K-J) and if need fold then after flop.

Really does depend on the action in front and players you're shoving into.

Also it depends on if you mean shoving with value hands or re-steal shoves stack sizes. Good rule thumb though is between 10-15 like already said. If you're wanting fold equity and are 3B shoving light vs loose players then you need from 15-25bb in most cases, again though this depends on the player.

two words: Fold Equity. You don't want to lose it.

If I have 15-20 BBs I'm looking to re-steal and maximize my fold equity by shoving all in with a wide range against targeted mid/late position openers.

If I have 10-15 BBs I'm looking to win the blinds however I think I can. I want to be first in the pot. If I think open shoving will work, I will do that, if I think a stop n go will work, I'll do that.

If I have under 10BB something has gone terribly wrong and I know I have very little fold equity. Now I'm looking to get it all in with any 2 cards if it folds to me in mid/late position or if I have a decently playable hand in any position I'll try to get all in in a multiway pot knowing I'll get several callers but if I get lucky and hit my hand I'll triple up or better.

It deoends on how deep you are normally its stupid to shove while there is a low stack right by you in top 3 of mtt unless you have king king or AA but in the beginning you should loosen up as tourney progresses and then once at final table you turn tight

well, I say that 10bb as the limit, with 10 or less it is clearly a shove or fold. With something like 15bb, you can still think of making a min raise and fold if action comes through. But it still depends on the position, and on the players of your table

10-15bbs is when I am just looking for a good shove spot with a decent hand to pick up the blinds.

15-24bbs I look for good reshove spots against loose openers/LP opens from the blinds.

All depends on table dynamics though and how good your table draw is.

When I have about 7-10bb.
It is like double or nothing :)
My last experience going allin was poor, lost with AQ to 97 (opp hitted set with 9)

For me it really depends on the prize structure, if we're close or past the bubble etc. And what my target is with the tournament. Many times I've sat and waited and not shoved knowing at some point I'll get a monster. I've come back and won 2 tournaments from being down to just the BB call. If you get even just a very short run of hands you can go from nothing to big stack so quickly. I would rarely shove anything other than a premium hand if we were in the prizes. But this wouldn't stop a bluff all in if I thought circumstances warranted it - cautious table, good position etc.

Interesting how default ranges can be very different from player to player.

When I get under 15BB, I am looking to shove big hands and just limp 22-77 to set mine. Under 8BB, 22-77 is then shoved to unopened pot.

I go with monster hands mostly all in preflop in freerolls, just to double my stack. I like with AA a all in preflop more than a raise, because there are not so many players against you and you can simply win more chips.

Is this to be funny or serious? If serious, please explain reasoning.

Just being contrarian a bit. BB makes no sense to me since I use M. At times you are just card dead and can shove garbage and hope. Depending on the tourney structure and stage I prefer something co-ordinated at least. So if M=5 in HJ, folded to me, I shove any pair and middle gappers if they are sooted.

It really depends on your position, the players and how the cards have been playing for you.
Usually it's anything under 20BB. If you can be patient and hit it at the right time you can double up a couple of times and your back in the game.
If you have been lucky, that does count for something, but I'd rather choose premium cards, if I shove. And as always, it comes down to the river. You can have the winning hole cards, but you can get sucked out.
GL on the felts.
