In the past month playing mtt tournaments i haven't cashed once, and everytime I get knocked out its by a six outer or worse. I'm wondering if there may be leaks in my game because it's a continuous problem. I feel like I'm playing good cards, but set over set or I catch someone bluffing and they hit an A on the river. The list goes on.

It's part of the game if you could control the 10-15% from happening than it wouldn't be classified as gambling.. Best advice would be start taking notes on these hands your losing and post them on here for advice from the vets on this website.

Collect your hand history and study it. Have a range set for your position as to which hands would play good for the situation.
It seems like your post-flop game is week, so you might want to study a little about how to play after the flop.
Don't worry too much if its a huge MTT, most professional MTT players don't cash in more than 10-5% or even less tournaments but when you go deep your award money is huge.

What is your playing style? Did you played these tournaments in the same style? How many did you played?

IUt's hard to say without actual hand history or examples.
+ what cand of byins are you playng. If it's a freeroll things like:
1. chech-call turn into check-allin river are indicative of a monster despite the board going rainbow and uncordinated in any way
2. maybe you limp-call min raise to many of hands like J9s. It might seem like it's only 1-2 blinds but the deeper you go thous 1-2 blinds matter
3. you trying out play your opnens on wierd bords (not to sound pompus but not every one on the table is decent at poker. You will see 72o shove PRF win over AA on the buton.

in conclusion ABC poker works ... I guess

I do need to start collecting hand histories. I think what messed me up is reading small ball poker.

I probably call way to much instead of 3 betting. I probably play to many hands. I have a wide open range, and a narrow calling range. But when studying opponents play. I call light when I can put them on fairly certain range.

MTTs are pretty hard.
Even the pro players can't cash in more than 10% of these tourneys and they are PRO.
If it is a "cheap" MTT then don't try fancy plays, it won't work.
Don't play to many hands, don't limp-call min raise just to see what the board brings you. Be a money grubber for your chips, don't waste them.

What are the stakes? As for me playing freerolls and micro stakes you really have to choose your battles. In micro stakes and freerolls you should play really cautious cause there are a lot of guys who will call you down to the river with junk. For example last night I was playing one of ACR's $10 on demand freerolls. I was short stacked in the BB and three players limped in, I was hold 52o. I checked, the flop came 5,5,3 rainbow. The SB checked I bet half the pot, all but one guy folded. A 6 came on the turn, so I shoved thinking he had a paint rag suited, he called showed Q8o, and I took a nice pot. Just goes to show that these guys will play anything and if you try to play loose like them you'll often get burned. Don't risk a large part of your stack on marginal situations. When you have a monster you'll get paid

its hard to tell, what is your sample size? what games are you playing? what is your roi?

in the mtts with 180 players or more you can have some huge downswings

if you have a low roi, then long breakeven stretches should be expected

You play for you to decide but the most important is the distance you're plus or minuse it should look. Good luck:)

That is actualiy an interesting observation you've made!!

In my live tournaments over the last year I've noticed that a lot of the regulars have adopted this approach...incorrectly. They forget that when the flop is textured they still need to bet enough so that it's wrong to call for a draw. The second is, once you get into medium and short stacks small ball is not good according to the guys that wrote the book.
