If you're losing, go back to the slower MTTs.

The general rule of thumb is that because the blinds go up quicker, you probably need to open up your range a little, be a little more aggressive, especially in the early going. After a while, it will basically become a shove-fest, so you just have to be careful at that stage and avoid throwing away chips pre-flop. Position is much more important in these kinds of tourneys.

Hi teepack. I'm having some internal debate over the range of cards to play. The early hands where you limp in can cause you to donk off your chips. What kind of range are we really taking about when you cant sit around waiting on aces and trying to steal the blinds with 78 offsuit.
cheers

Very important advice, I would listen, he knows what he's talking about. Playing your blinds right is also huge.

Maybe you are treating turbo same strategy to hyper turbo.

Those two have different strategies to apply.

you can find a free version on ICM trainer or get a sub to something like ICMizer or another software. Both worth it imo.

The faster the tournaments, the more have to rely on luck.
Do not be afraid to go all-in often. Look at the reaction of the players, especially those who are sitting on your right. If there is a check - this means weakness. It is unusual that this will mean that he wants to tighten you a trap. At the initial stage, when the blinds are still small, do not rush. Play tight

The game is in the early stages

Early stage turbo tournaments - a period of the game, in which the stacks of most players do not differ significantly, it usually does not last long. Range Hand enacted in the early stages of turbo tournament must minimize. Point guard any position should only top pair: AA, KK, QQ, with caution comes into play with hands JJ, TT and kicker with the Aces. your job is to save the stack and to maximize the opportunities in late position. you do not need to hope that you will be able to skillfully play after the flop with a good starting hand, so being in a position to answer reasonable raise and reraise than stake. Remember, if you are at an early stage will lose a significant portion of the stack, then turbo tournament you will be very difficult to rectify the situation.
selection strategy depending on the value of the stack

In turbo tournaments, the difference in the stacks of the players begins to manifest itself more quickly than in conventional MTT and the strategy of the game need to be adjusted depending on the size of your stack.

If your stack is 15-20 times greater than the sum of the blinds and antes, start playing more aggressively and steal the blinds. As a rule, loose players leave turbo tournaments still at an early stage, and those who are just lucky, got big stacks. These players - this is a great opportunity for you to double up and it should be used. Still enter the game with the increase or do not fold and try not to use the "call." Just call can only be inadequate players who can answer all-in for your raise, having the any two cards. Identify players who continue to play very tight and steal their blinds.

If your stack is 6-15 times greater than the sum of the blinds and antes often go to the tactic of shoving. With top pair, you can go all-in against any player. With smaller pairs of 99 and an ace with a big kicker safely increases against the appropriate opponents, but caution against those players who go all-in with any two cards.
If your stack is just more than 1-5 times than the sum of the blinds and antes, you have to use only two buttons, "all-in" and "fold." Wait for top pair or an ace with a kicker for you to become a dangerous occupation, you can lose all the remaining chips, simply dropping the card. So play it safe with either hand, even slightly increase your expectation and go all-in, for example, with an ace with a small kicker, or even with a small pair. If, before the prizes there are very few, it is possible to pull the time, immediately after the big blind turned out after you. Go all-in against the best players with an average stack of such rivals usually fold. Conversely, the greater the likelihood that the chip leaders and other short stacks will answer your all-in.
The final table

The final table in a turbo tournament is radically different from playing in the finals of conventional MTT. In turbo tournaments, a player with a big stack is less possible to push chips, pressure from the blinds have a more significant impact. Once the final table with a big stack, you should go back to the tight and narrow range of tactics played out hands. Having a short stack in the finals, watch the time. Quick decisions when blind is in front of you and, as time is not on you. Conversely, you can force the other player with a short stack to go all-in, pulling the time to come over to his big blind.

If you are a beginner, try not to play in turbo tournaments until gain experience in regular tournaments. Fans of the game with a few tables, it is recommended to reduce the number of tables, while playing a turbo format as well as the monitoring of their rivals in playing a more important role than in conventional MTT.

I had a go at the slower games and smaller tables as a result, busted my bankroll but ive got the feeling ill do that a few more times during the initial learning period. Its quite enjoyable playing the aggr style with weaker hands and it coming off. What a laugh.

I definitely try to avoid limping early in turbo tourneys, unless I am comfortable playing a re-raise. The one thing that can really hurt you is throwing away a lot of chips by trying to limp in and then folding after a re-raise. Do that 2-3 times, and all of a sudden you have donked away 20 percent of your stack.

For turbo tourneys, try to avoid rebuys and late registration. I am generally a fan of late registration, but in turbos, if you don't get in during the first 3 levels, it's probably not a good idea to register.

My strategy for rebuys is to buy in once and try to take advantage of all the loose play that goes on early to build up a chip stack. People really do play like idiots in the early stages of rebuys (I am talking about the cheap rebuys, $5 or less). If you can lay a trap, you can get an early double up and then another one, and then you just cruise it on until the add-on.

Another strategy I do is to buy in 2 minutes before the registration ends and then limp to the add-on, then pay for the add-on and go from there. Sure you are starting from behind, but as long as you have sufficient BBs you should be okay.

But for the most part I try to avoid rebuy tourneys.

guy I recommend you play slower at the beginning of the game, then start opening up the hand of range, 7-9 big blind start opening all-in

In tournaments like this , post- flop action is very limited in the final stages , so what will make the difference is you know the range of hands you will play right depending on the position and its stack. It is also important you pay attention to the range of your opponents and know pressure on short stacks , take advantage of situations like the bubble to steal as many blinds , and also know the ICM
