Hey man, I would play only the top 15 20% of hands in early game. but I think it's less about hand selection for you at the moment. i think your best bet would be to learn how to recognise and differentiate between the three stages (early, mid and late) in MTT's. if you get used to when the dynamics of the tournament are shifting it means you will be able to better exploit your opponents for their play styles.
I could write pages on each section, but to sum up;
. Play really tight. fold anything that isn't in top 20% of hands. don't bluff. don't assume anyone is bluffing
. Bet big for value.
. Be aggressive. widen your calling and opening ranges. look for sweet spots to steal blinds. take note of other players tendencies.
. take advantage of players tightening before the bubble. look for good opportunities to bluff. be more aggressive defending blinds. look to isolate the smaller stacks. Really open up when you breach the bubble.
