At what point in a tourney ( IE Stack, Blinds, Position ) Do you push on the flop with an Open Ender ?

Is it just a situation where you feel it out or is there actually an odds situation where it makes sense to be the first one into the pot?

Any help is appreciated.

I dont think u do ne where, unless ur a monster stack goin up against a fairly small stack.I dont like chasing it and it hardly ever comes, atleast 4 me.Lets say the player on your left shoves with a small stack and every one else folds, then i might call,if there are not no flush draws or pairs on the board.having an open ender is a risk reward hand.More of a risk than a reward most of the time. You need to figure out what outs that u have.Lets say u have KQ,and the flop comes Jc, 6s, 10d,this would be a fairly good flop to have, because there s no fush draw or pais out there.so u would have eight outs possibly left in the deck, and say that short stack shoves and it is left to u to either fold of give him the pot,In this case i might call more times then fold because he could be holdin a j with good kicker,in that case u would have a few more outs which would be your gettin pairs of Ks,or qs but then that opens a door for him to have the straight.as u can see there is more chances for u to loose than win in this situation, and it will probably yeld high pots but would also loose u alot of chips. Its a scary hand and will burn ya most of the time.

1 thing that helps me decided to either push or just call a flopped open ender is My chip stack My oppenents chip stack / Playing style and the Pot Size
sometimes a good way to play it is check, if bet just call, and if you hit once again check, if he bets than you push, since its safer to not let him see the river card
(This is a bit riskier) Another way is that you can push half the pot and if a card doesnt come out in your favor bet big depending on CHIP STACK Now your oponent will think for a minute and you know he will do one of FOUR things 1. Fold 2. Call (He has TRAPED you) 3. Call (He has a draw of some sort)4. Raise (He most likely has a big pair in which case your odds maybe favorable, but depending on the amount of the bet and your chip stack its too risky)
Note If he calls your big bet you should check the river if you didn't hit since he may have that big pair

All in on an open ender

You have to take in all factors like your stack compared to your opponents stack. Are you playing an aggressive player or a passive one? If you are up against an expert player if you are giving him decent pot odds with your all in and he has a hand to play, he will usually call. There is a lot more to it than having a chance to knock you out. You have to feel them out. If you are behind a reraise then you most likely will get called. Daniel Negreanu wrote in his book "Hold Em wisdom for all players" about drawing hands...

If you have the turn and river to come, if you have 13 cards that can improve your hand then you're a very small underdog. If 14 cards can make your hand, you're about even money.

Hope that helps.

Pretty general question so like with so much in poker,it depends:p.

But there plenty of spots where pushing draws is your best move.
For example:
Fold equity+big pot+tight players(+shortning stack)= Good time to shove a draw :).

I think I have come up with this.

Anytime you have the odds to call, and the call requires 65% of your chips, you might as will put them all in there. Usually if you miss the 35% you have left will not get you far.

Any thoughts?

i read once u should never risk all your chips on a straight draw and sometimes even a flush draw. the only time u put all your chips in on a draw is when u have both the straight and flush draw and u r getting 3-1 odds. once i find it ill let u know which book it was in.

Largely depends on your reads on opponents, I would suggest.

This is a move you would make when you have a pretty good notion that the other players will fold. Your straight draw gives you outs, should you be called.

You would not (unless you are short-stacked and desperate for a double-up) purposely choose to go to a showdown for your tournament life with a hand where you are apt to be underdog and with only about a 30% chance to survive.

i think its a horrible move , because you lose more often than you win , and its obviously bad , only time u could think of doing it is with a super short or a relatively super huge stack as compared to the villain

10J flop 89 -------- push.....no lol..

If you are midway through a larger MTT and playing QJspades on the button. Lets say the blinds are 200-400 and you have 6700 6 callers and the blinds. After you call and the blinds call. (pot 3600)

Flop 9S 10d 4s

Sb check
bb bet 600
call
call
call
call
fold
I call pot now 7200
sb now check raises to 2800 all in.
BB calls with 6k back
one other caller. 6k back

Now pot is. 15600 you have 5400 left. I think with this scenario, I push everytime. You have 17 outs. almost 60% to improve by the river. I push the other and make it a $25k pot

obviously...its a push...you have a straight draw, flush draw, and can suckout with a J/Q....you have to take the risk here because of the amount of chips in the pot
