Wondered what people thought was the best strategy when you gain an early (2 hour) advantage in a tournament.

Should you continue to be an aggressor and forge for the long term i.e. play for the top 5 spots early on even though you have a 'decent' advantage or tighten your game in order to make a charge later on.

My opinion would be that once you get to the 'super sized stack' 150BB+ in the first 2-4 hours it can give you an enormous amount of breathing space and even gives you the privilege of having plenty of time for the premium hands to start coming your way. It also gives you a massive advantage to make the most of your position.

Why play for 6-10 hours to have to get a bad beat near the bubble or towards the final table when you can potentially get the crucial stack advantage you need early on.

With a stack like this it can give you the chance also to take a 30 minute nap half-way through to completely recharge your batteries. Having to fight for your life the whole time you can never leave the table!!

I'd also be quite curious to see a study of how often the player who has an enormous stack(top 5% of field) at the 3/4 hour mark goes on to make the final table or be there or there about?

Keep up the agro. No need to slow down if you are winning. Thats like saying, ok i won 3 big pots so i should cool it, NO if you are running well dont stop running because you are trying to keep what you have safe, you had to risk your small stack to begin with so why stop since you have more chips? once you start seeing your run dwindle then slow down, but i say keep on trucking!
