Hello all,

I invariably get impatient when I get deeper into MTT's and I seem to think that everyone is bluffing me, even if I'm playing great poker before that point.

I was wondering if you guys have some strategies or tricks to keep yourselves disciplined when the heat is on and the tourney is closer to the bubble.

Normally if u play more than two tables you will be better, because you're taking notes of the players, and when is you to act, u play... normally in the beggining players only play and don't take notes, normally the get impacient, and bored. if u don't take notes i recomend, but if u don't want to, u can watch some music see some videos of poker... etc

the worst is after a run of bad cards and first ace you see you want to play it...well then chances are u are being called
I usually muck that first real playable hand and it goes okay

Why do you think you're getting impatient?

Yes I am the same, I get tired of waiting for the right hand to play, but what I found is Instead of waiting to play the right hands I sometimes bluff min raising UTG with thin air, which sometimes works, but if I get 3 bet I fold, or sometimes I 4 bet bluff depending if I have enough blinds.

Why do you think you're getting impatient?

It's usually it's like I haven't won a hand in a while or haven't even seen a flop cuz my hole cards aren't up to scratch. But then my folded hands just keep flopping nuts hand after hand after hand, so I widen my preflop range just at the right time to get involved in a hand I shouldn't ever be in, usually losing a large chunk or my whole stack chasing the hand and/or bluffing against the nuts.

Play tight till big stack, loosen up once monster stack. Make tough folds don't commit to AQ or AJ KT, 10, 10 pre-flop flipping basically when you have a strong lead.. flip with small stack show nuts against big stacks.

Keeping patience in mtt poker is super important , as sometimes you just wont have any good oppurtunities to take advantage of . I agree with what a poster above said , try and make sure you are paying close attention to the rest of the action at the table , not just when you are in a pot. You can gain valuable information from observation , and that should alleviate a bit of the boredom. You can then use that information to increase your stack !

You're not the only one sitting at the table, see how opponents play with each other and solve their hands, take notes and write to use this information against them.

Near bubble i always play tight if i dont have big stack and then after the bubble i loose up and play cards like A10 AJ.. Near the bubble is bets to be tight and observe your opponnents to see how to play after the bubble.

Try to steal more on later stages, more agressive, more bluffs, bet bet but with head.. you need blinds if you don't have them.. but they have variance if you lose a hand you lost all.. is called NO LIMIT hold'em .. :D you can lose all in one hand

Don`t worry be happy and play aggresive and concentrated maybe this is the problem.Sometimes all-in with A5 collored or 44 can be important decision in a middle possition if you play MTT or it`s late phase.

Use your position to exploit weaknesses on the table and don't get involved with big stack if you have marginal hand.

Hello all.
I think it is interesting question.

so, you MUST have flair!!! it is first.
second is you should watch your opponents, what he do, stakes etc.
third try to open him or his it is possible without risks.
Of course you should develop and know concepts like odds, size of stakes and etc. and reed books.
Good luck!

I have other tables opened and I load some more in advance if I busted all the initial ones. They all don't have to be long tournaments, just some sit'n'gos or multi-table sngs may be fine (I just prefer not to load those with different structure than the one tournament with a deep run, as for example, turbos or hypers require a lot riskier play and a lot of push-fold and I don't want this play to interfere with more relaxed structure of deep run). So thus my mind is not concentrated on this one special "deep run" table where you feel like you "have to perform" (and such mindset might result in overthinking the spots, getting impatient, catching certain expectations about your stack size, your hands and opponents and so on).

And I think experience of these stages helps too, as over the time you have lost and won with different approaches and know from your own mistakes where you don't have to rush it or that with any stack size nothing is guaranteed and anything can happen, so you just try to play your spots carefully and pick them wisely.

And maybe playing within your BR helps too, so you won't get too scared in important stages of tournaments while looking at the pay-jumps.

When you take notes - do you use a special sort of shorthand or symbology that allows you do do it quickly? I pay attention to the how everyone plays and what cards they are turning over and remembering how they bet from preflop to the river but have never taken notes. Maybe I should start doing this - see what happens.
