OK so i have decided to play more MTTs (on pokerstars) i'm normally a cash game player but i fancied a new challenge and it was getting a bit repetitive just playing cash all the time lol.

I'm a little bit inexperienced with online MTTs however, i have played a lot of freerolls and pub poker tournaments so i do know the basics, how to play during the early, middle and later stages of the tourny etc etc.

Just wondering what sorts of tournaments i should be looking to play on pokerstars? My bankroll is £200 ($320), should i be looking to play in tournaments with high GTDs with lots of players or tournaments with less players? Thanks.

You have to play tournaments with more people. In the beginning of the tournament you have to make a lot of chips but in the final part you have to play push or fold.

what happens is that in tournaments with many players you get a cute cake gifts but both one and the other to start playing like a slaughter I think the most logical would be some low entry tournament with many players and wait coming up with good hands, because you'll get good rewards if you end up on top.

Play in both the high GTDs and the capped entry tourneys but make sure you have something like 200 buy ins which means playing 1 dollar tourneys with your roll, you could play 2 dollars sometimes too but apart from taking the odd shot if you go above 2 dollars regularly I think the variance could kill your br. Some people would say 250 buy ins is the minimum you should have while others would say 100 buy ins would be ok, kind of depends how you deal with downswings. Since you're comfortable that you know how to play the various stages of a tournament I reckon playing well within your bankroll is really something to focus on so that you are never chasing or playing scared money.

Thanks very much for the advice dee dee, i've been told that you shouldn't risk more than 1% of your bankroll on a tournament, so with £200 ($320) i shouldn't be playing any higher than the $3.30 tournaments, but if i need to have at least 200BIs then i think the $2.20 tournaments is the highest i will go. Is this right?

I deal with downswings really well, i hardly ever go on tilt or anything i'm just not an emotional guy i guess haha. I'm in this to make money, of course, but i want to enjoy myself at the same time and have fun lol.

Yes Ryan $2.20 would be a good cap to set, if you go above this you could be entering a world of pain :).

I would play a softer site, which is everyone of them.

200bi may be a bit much- but very safe
why not try 90-180man sitngos for awhile 1st?
fields with 1000s take a long long time and variance is always worse too
GTDs dont really matter on stars since they almost always go above the amount
satellites to bigger buyin games are usually easy to win and gets you playing some games out of your bankroll as well

The $2.20 satellites to the Sunday Storm every half hour are soft (Too many people play them like tournaments, too aggressive) but they pay 11T$ which you must play in some Stars event if you unregister. Satellites may teach you bad habits if you win and can't adjust to real tournaments.

I am quite partial to satelites to bigger tourneys. I play the $1-$3 ones for the 200k MTT on Sundays at Party. A good (cheap) way into the MTTs with larger payouts
