I am a new poker player and was about break even in the micro sngs. I was trying to build my bankroll with these and suspect I'm just not quite good enough to beat the few regs always playing in these games.

I moved to micro mtt's today, cashed a few times, and got one big second placer. Do you guys think it is likely that a move to micro mtt's will increase my roi into positives when im not even able to beat the micro sngs?

It's possible as the games are a bit different. It's possible if you're better at MTT's compared to SNG's. Do you have much experience playing tourneys? Also might just be you're on an early heater in the MTT's. You never know  My very first MTT I played online, I placed 2nd in a $1 mtt that had ~950 entrants. It seemed so easy! (I was counting how much money I was going to have by the end of the month, lol).

Good luck in your games & if you want some help, post some hand histories in this section of the forum.

They are different games but if you feel better on the multi tourneys try sticking to them.

It really depends, I mean, If you we're having a rough time beating the regs @ the STT tables, and MTT's are basically about "Spots" and "Critical spots to accumulate chips" to better your shot @ Running deeper In the game, and these are traits that you need to practice up on @ the STT tables, during bubble play, and Short handed play. Yet without those solid fundamentals firmly embedded In your brain, than how are you gonna adjust during the bubble In MTT's when the same situation's are arising all over again? Also, as you're not always gonna be the "Massive stacks In MTT's, you need to practice up on your 20-40BB ranges".

I wish you the best and last and least welcome and don't force It.

I think you could give it a shot. If you play within you br. a few losses will not be a big deal. If you dont like the water you can always move back down. The main difference in mtt and stt are im my opinion the huge icm pressure in stt. If you dont know icm it will be very hard to gain sucess in stt, while in mtt it is not nearly as important (bubbling a lot in stt are a disaster, as the times you win will not make up for it).

My 2 cents

try getting high before the MTTs I always found it relaxes me and seperates me from the bitter beats. My tilt goes to zero. Mary Jane only no hard drugs like alcohol.

MTT's with a larger field size can take forever. When you are doing micro's, that can often mean the payoff/hr of time spent playing are not really worth your time without cashing in the top 3.

For example, if you play a $1 tournament, with 1000 entries, it could take 7 hours to reach the final table and the 9th place payout is $25... that means you'd only have achieved $3.57/hr. During that 7 hours you could have played 10+ $1 single table SNG's... even if you're only doing 1 table at a time.

For this reason, if sombody wants to do MTT's to improve their bankroll, I'd suggest playing higher stakes buy-ins. Maybe do $7+ for MTT's if you are normally playing $1 SNG's for example.

If u feel comfortable playing mtts then go for it. I play mtts far more than anything else as I find it the most profitable form of poker for me. I would suggest brushing up on some strategy and game theory as that will help your game massively. Good luck. P.S I'd ignore the guy above as playing $1 mtts can be far more profitable than playing $1 stts per hour.

MTT's have more variance. Bigger playing fields= more variance. You might have gotten lucky, finding yourself way up in the short run.

I'd recommend sticking with a mix of both.

I would also try to mix both. SNG is a great way to train the final stage of the MTT tournaments where there is bubble pressure and the tables are not in full ring. The best rewards in my opinion are in MTT.

The answers in your results. Your play style and comfort level seems to fit more with mtts from what you posted. Sngs are a bit faster, and you have to have a bigger range. They are like the final stages of a mtt, except you haven't built up a stack over time, you're all even. If you're having that muvh of a instant success turnaround, then you've found what you should be playing.

Come on now , it is not black or white it's grey. Keep grinding SNG and give some shots to the same buy in MTTs seeking for a bink. I don't understand why is the one or the other. Since you can't be profitable playing SNG the transition to MTTs may be tougher but on the other hand in the MTT you can find more spots to increase your stack especially in the micros. Either way good luck!

its one hand at a time. The less hands you play the less chips you loose. Try not calling any pots unless you can call a raise. Also try not getting involved in hand where multiple people are all in unless you have huge pocket pair like KK or AA. I wouldn't be so easy to call all ins with AK in these situations as well. pic another spot

The small micro mtts are probably a good place to start. A nice low cost way to get a feel for the game. Move up when you feel comfortable to do so.
