Ok, my FullTilt user is the same as my CC, feel free to check me up

http://www.officialpokerrankings.co...lts/720D28C535234B46B383922DAB8519B5.html?t=2 - Looking mainly at last 120 days (my other previous consistent spell of play on FT was a year ago, I'm much improved since then)

After my exams finished, and lack of ability to get a job, I deposit into FT after floating at various sites, I get lucky, win satellite to 45 man $24+2, and subsequently won that, took $300 out of my then $500 BR

I have now grinded my way up (although ran v.hot lately) mainly playing through 9 man sit n gos, going from $5 > $10 > $20, (I have played the odd MTT, HU or ring game). My BR is now over $600 and was looking to move up into $30 sng same format, but I've noticed from the odd rail and observing the entries, that it attracts a much higher level of player compared to the steps from $5 through to $20. And seeing some decent profiting players (i.e. augustwest11) regularly playing and profiting at $20 level, I am thinkning, is this my limit for this type of game? The $20 games attract a lot of fish and that coupled with my tight/aggressive style and aggressive bubble play I think I have the format nailed, and am facing often now a lot of the same people, too many people overvalue ace rags, push low pairs etc. So yeah, my first question is, to move or not to move to $30?

Secondly, I'm considering shifting my focus to MTT, I have only played in the odd, either GTD or a MTT SnG, from my recent brief experience, I have seen these are FILLED with fish, I realise I got very lucky, but in the 3 11-45 man (1 x 27, 2 x 45) MTTs I've played in I have won them all! I'm under no illusions in getting lucky there, but I thought the standard was very poor, do people here have any experience of making a decent profit in these games? I'd have to reduce my buy in and have to deal with bad runs I know compared to the STT SnGs, and similarly with the GtD scheduled tournaments, seem to attract bad players, I find a lot of players just cannot play to the long format, grow impatient. I'm cool with the long formats etc. I have plenty of time to kill! :p

Either that, or I continue grinding at $20 sng, but as I build my BR and can't get a summer job at all atm, I'm seriously looking to this as my main income for the summer break. I'm not a poker noob, I've played on various sites over the past 2 years under various aliases, and there's a big live scene where I am (Oxford Cup this weekend whoop!) But this is the first time where I'm playing decent stakes (and also being disciplined with BR etc) and playing regularly enough to be really taking it seriously

Thoughts?

To add I tend not to multitable, I stay at one, as the same players come and go, I'm quite talkative (trash :D) at the table, and choose to analyse every hand and rigourously go through every showdown and earn myself RSI from the notes pages ;) instead of multitabling. I just stick to a mainly rigorous tight/aggressive position and hand selection and the fish make my money for me, I do nothing special, in STT or MTT, so despite the low range of results, I feel I'm confident at this level, and am just looking for advice as to where or if to move on to :)

Def need more than 20 buyins, I'd say you are easily rolled for $11 prob

just rolled enough for $15. $30buyins on a $600 BR is not good BR

management. Especially when you are seeing this as your main source of

income. As you moved up limts you obv run into better players so the

more buyins you have the less pressure you will be under if you have a

down swing, also as You move up your roi will shrink. So more buyins

makes more sense. I'd stick with a minimum of 40 buyins for a given game

before you move up, but seriously 60 is probably better, if you see it as

your main source of income. Slow down and grind it up like you know in

your gut that you should .GL buddy all the best.

Go look up phatchoy888 and look what he has done in the last few years playing only sitanggo's. He also plays tournys on sundays but his bread and butter is sitandgo's. I would be careful about the jump because ur bankroll might not be able to hold up to a losing streak at that level. Gl and see u on the felts.

Yeah, cheers guys, I was slightly worried of my BR not standing up to $30, I think there's enough fish at the $20 level I'm comfortable with my BR to continue, any downswing I have I think will be minor (unless it's absolutely horrid) and I can handle it. But the jump in buy in coupled with the better standard had me thinking, hence post :)

I suppose the tourneys on sundays is fairly logical, peak time = more fish, right? I don't think my ROI on $20 will be as high as it is currently as I've been on a streak but I still think I can grind a fair amount, same with cash games, like 25NL? I had someone shove 96 on me on those tables yesterday, but then again despite the poor players i'd be more afraid of swings in cash. Whereas with sit n go I kind of approach it with a 1 trick pony attitude which gets me to the money as everyone falls by the wayside.

I think the 45 man tournaments seem to have the most fish, thinking of the 24+2 here, but again I'm feeling I should wait until I build my BR further that I can cope, with only 6 payouts, but there's little reward it seems for finishing anywhere else but the top 2, I feel I'd be banking a lot on luck to profit on these tables?

When I was playing the $22 single table sit and go's on Stars a few years back I had a 19 buyin downswing. I was crushing the games as well for several months up to that point, so yea, dont move up, I'd be looking at playing with at least a 50 buyin cushion for each level if you are gonna take this any way seriously.

This is dangerous thinking. The best of players go through large downswings. If you think you will never experience anything more than a "minor downswing", you will be in for a nasty surprise.

Also, larger tournaments = smaller % payout = more variance = requires a larger number of buy ins. So basically you need to be more rolled for MTTs than STTs.
