Moving on from $20 SnG
Ok, my FullTilt user is the same as my CC, feel free to check me up
- Looking mainly at last 120 days (my other previous consistent spell of play on FT was a year ago, I'm much improved since then)
After my exams finished, and lack of ability to get a job, I deposit into FT after floating at various sites, I get lucky, win satellite to 45 man $24+2, and subsequently won that, took $300 out of my then $500 BR
I have now grinded my way up (although ran v.hot lately) mainly playing through 9 man sit n gos, going from $5 > $10 > $20, (I have played the odd MTT, HU or ring game). My BR is now over $600 and was looking to move up into $30 sng same format, but I've noticed from the odd rail and observing the entries, that it attracts a much
higher level of player compared to the steps from $5 through to $20. And seeing some decent profiting players (i.e. augustwest11) regularly playing and profiting at $20 level, I am thinkning, is this my limit for this type of game? The $20 games attract a lot of fish and that coupled with my tight/aggressive style and aggressive bubble play I think I have the format nailed, and am facing often now a lot of the same people, too many people overvalue ace rags, push low pairs etc. So yeah, my first question is, to move or not to move to $30?
Secondly, I'm considering shifting my focus to MTT, I have only played in the odd, either GTD or a MTT SnG, from my recent brief experience, I have seen these are FILLED with fish, I realise I got very lucky, but in the 3 11-45 man (1 x 27, 2 x 45) MTTs I've played in I have won them all! I'm under no illusions in getting lucky there, but I thought the standard was very poor, do people here have any experience of making a decent profit in these games? I'd have to reduce my buy in and have to deal with bad runs I know compared to the STT SnGs, and similarly with the GtD scheduled tournaments, seem to attract bad players, I find a lot of players just cannot play to the long format, grow impatient. I'm cool with the long formats etc. I have plenty of time to kill!
Either that, or I continue grinding at $20 sng, but as I build my BR and can't get a summer job at all atm, I'm seriously looking to this as my main income for the summer break. I'm not a poker noob, I've played on various sites over the past 2 years under various aliases, and there's a big live scene where I am (Oxford Cup this weekend whoop!) But this is the first time where I'm playing decent stakes (and also being disciplined with BR etc) and playing regularly enough to be really taking it seriously
To add I tend not to multitable, I stay at one, as the same players come and go, I'm quite talkative (trash ) at the table, and choose to analyse every hand and rigourously go through every showdown and earn myself RSI from the notes pages instead of multitabling. I just stick to a mainly rigorous tight/aggressive position and hand selection and the fish make my money for me, I do nothing special, in STT or MTT, so despite the low range of results, I feel I'm confident at this level, and am just looking for advice as to where or if to move on to
